Retailer Readies Royal Merchandise

Royal Wedding MerchandiseUK retailer Woolworths has been busy preparing royal souvenirs for the impending marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Woolworths, confident that the couple will soon get engaged and married, are said to have designed over 20 new products, including mugs, plates, dolls, slippers, photo albums, flags and bunting along with modern souvenirs such as mobile phones and mouse mats.

Marketing director Stephen Robertson says: “There was massive demand for commemorative products when Charles and Camilla got married. But because of the short engagement we didn’t have enough time to design, manufacture and retail products. As a result we missed out on an estimated £3 million opportunity.

This time we will be ready and we think the market could be worth up to £10 million. We believe we will have a fantastic range that will allow our customers to celebrate a royal wedding in style.”

Terry Ovenstone, Woolworths store manager in St Andrews, says: “Everyone in St Andrews is excited about Will and Kate’s future. Ever since they got together they’ve been the darling couple of St Andrews. We hope they get married soon and we will be making a huge effort here at Woolies to celebrate.”

Woolworths is readying its stores to launch the products. Stores in St Andrews and Windsor are planned to have window displays, dedicated royal merchandise ailes and royal parties in the event of an announcement.
