Prince Harry To Be Deployed To Iraq

Prince Harry will be deployed to Iraq.

A joint statement from the Ministry of Defence and Clarence House announced today that Harry’s regiment, The Blues and Royals, will serve in Iraq as part of the latest deployments.

The regiment is due to be sent to Iraq in April for six months as part of a rotation of troops.

Following his graduation from Sandhurst in 2006, Harry qualified as an armoured reconnaissance troop leader. Acting as the “eyes and ears” of the Army, he will lead a troop of 12 men using four light armoured Scimitar tanks in reconnaissance work.

The statement says that “the decision to deploy him has been a military one” and that the “Royal household has been consulted throughout”. No further information on exactly where Harry will serve, or his exact role, has been released as this information is considered “potentially dangerous”.

Prince Harry will be the first senior Royal to serve on the front line since Prince Andrew saw active duty during the Falklands War in 1982.
