Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has told the BBC that Prince William and Kate Middleton should be “left alone” and allowed to “get on with their lives”.

Speaking on The Politics Show, Mr Blair said:

They should be left alone now without the reams of stuff being written that I can assure you, from my experience of royal stories, most of which will be complete nonsense. I think, now it has been announced, they should be allowed to get on with their lives.

In the absence of an official comment by Clarence House, speculation has been rising as to the reason for the split between the couple. Sunday newspapers have put forward many and varied possible reasons for the couples’ break-up, including the strain caused by Prince William’s army career, his party lifestyle, another woman, interference by the Royal Family, media pressure, Kate’s career and her family background.
