Given that he was at least three feet taller than his teammates, Prince William seemed like the best man to take the headers at a kickaround yesterday. William, who is the president of the Football Association, was visiting its Hat-Trick project, a scheme which provides a range of footballing opportunities in disadvantaged communities for children aged seven to 16. For the big match William, 25, was dressed in an FA tracksuit, polo shirt and a pair of odd socks — a nod to an old Eton tradition. And even if he is second in line to the throne, his rival players did not hold back on their crunching tackles…

The Prince of Wales stopped to come to the aid of a motorcyclist who had plunged 15ft off a mountain road. Charles and his aides came to the rescue after spotting the injured man as they drove to the Balmoral Estate. The Prince, who was driving alone, was returning from a private visit when he passed the scene of the accident on Sunday afternoon. He stopped his car to help, and was quickly joined by the Scotland Yard officers who were trailing him in another vehicle…

Town Hall chiefs knew they would have to pull out all the stops for the Queen’s visit - new carpets, lick of paint and cleaning the toilets until they sparkle. But that wasn’t enough for pushy Buckingham Palace bigwigs who demanded a brand new £5,000 loo specially for Her Majesty. To cap it all, she didn’t even use the expensive toilet during her brief trip to the town hall at Romsey, Hants, in June. Angry town clerk Judith Giles said: “I told Palace officials the toilets were not pristine but they were clean. They said,’You will have to replace it.’ There was no argument.”…
