Chelsy Davy makes the most of Holiday in Kenya
Terrified Chelsy Davy is trapped in her Kenyan holiday villa—after the country’s riots spread to the trendy tourist town where she is staying.
Earlier this week Prince Harry’s ex saw in the New Year cavorting on a sun-soaked beach in a blue-and-white spotted bikini and sexy white mini-skirt.
Blonde Chelsy, 22, then changed into a skimpy stripy top to stroll in the east coast town of Malindi, near Mombasa, where she is staying with brother Shaun and a group of pals.
But now her paradise break has turned to terror as she hunkers down in her luxury apartment for fear of getting caught in crossfire.
As tensions build in the wake of the East African state’s disputed election last Sunday, trouble has flared on Chelsy’s doorstep. Cops with tear gas have fought running battles with rioters and a bar in town was burned down. Five men were arrested after being caught with petrol bombs and panicked local police have called in support forces.
One resident said: “Things are very tense. The police are trying to break up gangs before they do real damage and tourists are keeping to their hotels and villas.”
Chelsy was due back in Leeds on Friday to begin three weeks of crucial university exams tomorrow.
But British consular officials have warned Brits in Kenya not to travel. A spokesman said: “In affected areas, we are advising people to stay indoors and seek local advice.”
Chelsy is now too nervous to risk even the short drive to Malindi airport, from where she must fly to Kenyan capital Nairobi then London.
A pal at Leeds University, where Chelsy is doing a post-graduate law course, said: “We were expecting her back over the weekend but she’s had to change her plans because of the troubles. There’s been some violence and unrest where she’s staying and it’s seen as a risk getting to the airport in Malindi by road.
“She also doesn’t know what would await her in Nairobi if she flew there. So she’s trying to work out the best way to get back. But at the moment she is effectively stranded.”
Zimbabwe-born Chelsy has been sunning herself away from freezing Britain for the last month, spending time with family and friends in South Africa and Zimbabwe before flying on to Kenya to see in 2008.
Earlier this week she was in festive mood. An onlooker said: “She was having the time of her life. She didn’t stop smiling and laughing.” But now all that has changed as trouble has spread from Nairobi. More than 350 people have been killed in the crisis-hit country and 250,000 people made homeless. Fifty people burned to death when a church was torched.
Yesterday Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki offered to form “a government of national unity” to help stop the violence. But opposition leaders want a re-run of the disputed presidential election.
Chelsy’s ordeal follows a troubled year for her. In November we revealed how she dumped Prince Harry, 23, over his wild party lifestyle and lack of commitment.
But after a three-week break they met secretly at a pal’s home in West London then hours later Chelsy was dropped off at Clarence House and spent the night with Harry. (via News Of The World)
