Prince William enjoys a good curry on evening out in York
Prince William stunned diners at a York curry house last night by turning up unannounced and ordering a house special.
The heir to the British throne called in at Saffron Desi, in Micklegate, at 7.30pm, along with 47 of his friends and colleagues.
Restaurant owner Mohammed Nisar was behind the bar when the Royal guest walked in. He said he had taken the group booking, but there had been no mention of a VIP in the group.
Mr Nisar said: “As soon as he walked in I met him and said Welcome to Saffron Desi’. I shook hands with him and asked what he would like to drink.”
Mr Nisar said the prince, who is currently undertaking pilot training at RAF Linton-on-Ouse, asked for a cider and when given the choice between a bottle and draught he plumped for a bottle of Strongbow.
The restaurateur said: “I told the kitchen that Prince William was here. All the guests are special, but I couldn’t believe we had a Royal here.”
When it came to the main meal the prince, who was on a table with 20 others, was told about one of the restaurant’s speciality dish - the aptly named Royal Delight.
Mr Nisar explained the restaurant’s chef, Asad Malik, had previously cooked the dish - comprising chicken breast marinated in yoghurt, spices and a masala sauce and then cooked with ginger, onions and tomatoes among other ingredients - for Princess Diana at a function at London’s Dorchester Hotel.
Prince William, who was sharing the dishes with three friends, opted for it and the party also shared a Saffron mixed starter, mango chicken, makhani special (mild, creamy chicken) and honey chicken.
Mr Nisar said the prince had specifically asked him which the milder curries were on the menu. But it was the accompaniments which really blew the prince away.
When the prince was faced with one of the restaurant’s trademark family-sized naan breads, Mr Nisar said the 25-year-old told him he would never forget it as it was so large.
He said: “We took it to the table and he started laughing.”
Mr Nisar said other guests in the restaurant soon realised who they were dining with and some approached him for an autograph. The prince, who is believed to have been with a Royal protection officer, politely declined.
Gwen Turner, 25, of South Bank, York, was in the restaurant at the time with her boyfriend, Steve Brierley. Miss Turner said: “We couldn’t believe it when we realised it was him. The staff were so excited that they were telling everybody as they were coming into the restaurant.”
Mr Nisar said the prince had been very polite and was dressed in jeans and a T-shirt.
He said: “He said it was an excellent meal, and excellent restaurant and excellent service and that he would be coming back. Myself and my chef and partner and all the staff are proud to have served him.” (via The Press)

Hi Guys,
Isn’t it amazing. ? Just to keep William’s name in the papers a huge report of a visit to an asian restaurant in York. How exciting but it has the required effect. Keeps William’s name ‘up in lights’.
This year the Royal machine is going all out to ensure we all read about William’s exploits (yes in an asian restaurant).
Kate however is consigned to the bin. Not a word or a sentence about her, and this is how it will continue until we all recognise ‘It’s William’ and ‘it’s William without Kate’ .he so dashing ?
Mindful of his reputation and popularity so it continues until we all forget about Kate and see William as the big clean white Prince who wouldnt cheat on his girlfiend of 5 years or so and lead her on so cynically.
If it wasn’t so funny it would be pathetic !
February 8th, 2008 11:15
Kate has been mentioned in the Telegraph….so she has’nt been forgotten…yet.
Besides they always write about where William eats/drinks. I doubt Kate is going to slink away in the background. If she is dumped she won’t go away quietly.
February 8th, 2008 12:55
Hi
Usually most of Kate “appearances” in the paper is when she goes out partying and maybe “The firm” want to put an end of that. Have you notice that Harry and Chelsy are not making the news either. I agree with LR if Kate was dumped she would be going out and would be all over the news.
February 8th, 2008 16:07
I truly believe and agree with Will, when he stated that he think the Queen put her foot down with William and his companion. We may still see these people party alittle but not like before.

Hi Guys,
When one clinically analysis and physically observes the interactions between Kate and Prince William over the last months one must feel disturbed for them.
I think we all have to reluctantly accept that it is over 90% certain that Kate has walked and moved on.
The 10% is because after 5+ years there is so much ‘knowledge’ between a couple in such an intimate relationship that they don’t have to communicate, they have to look and think and it happens.
It is however crucial that if such a relationship is to be maintained then love and trust must be acceptable to both and I think Kate has realised that for her, whilst her great love is still there , trust has gone.
I don’t think any one denies that theirs was the most intimate of relationships, and what they know about one another is that knowledge that lovers loyally take to their graves.
They know more about one another than their parents, siblings or friends and that particular knowledge is usually kept between the couple and no one else.
However when trust is driven away by the actions of one in that relationship part of the spirit of the other dies and the heart can’t always compensate.
From what we see and read, that as happened and I think Kate has decided enough is enough.
I hope she finds happiness in the years to come and sincerly hope that her happiness is not marred by the complications any residual love may have years into the future.
It has happened and could happen again.

Will, what on earth are you talking about? My God, when will this end. Have you heard about the ITV Documentary that was just finished. They did a documentary on William & Kate and it’s set to air right after the engagement is announced. You must not be having a good day.
But I hope you are feeling well.
February 8th, 2008 18:34
Anyone see new Daily Mail front page….
Prince William in Twirl with Mystery Blonde.
He’s out enjoying the evening dancing with her
…and it’s not Chelsy.

Hi Claudius,
Thanks for you good wishes.
See the Daily Mail on saturday.
Claudius please pick holes in my post .
ITV started documentary 2 years ago and the events talked about are not new. It has been known for some time this was happening but they haven’t done very much over past 3/4 months.
February 8th, 2008 18:51
I wonder is the press trying to prepare for news of a breakup.
February 8th, 2008 19:01
Will, all I see William doing is dancing with a blonde girl and having a good time. That does not mean that he is secretly seeing her. You know, I have to say that I feel sorry for William & Kate. They will never get a break from these silly rumors. That boy can’t be seen with anyother woman without people and the press hooking them up. The whole thing is just sad. William seemed to have had a good time that night, dancing with a person who clearly enjoyed getting a chance to dance with a Prince. That’s all to that.
February 8th, 2008 19:06
Hi Claudius,
Sorry to double post you but I will mention a point that I deliberately left out earlier.
William subscribes to the view that he should not be the first Prince of Wales to forgo a mistress , as his father once reminded Diana, and that view more than any other point caused the split early in 2007.
Kate as a modern lover objects strongly to this precept as do other ladies these days.
The right de Seignior of old will no longer be tolerated by modern girls but Royal Princes observe it as a ‘perk’..
As a point of interest Prince William should make contact with Prince Albert of Monaco who went bald in his twenties and once commented, when he was about 30 years of age, that it was difficult for him to press his suite on younger ladies who could not take him seriously as a partner because of his receding hair line.
William beware!
February 8th, 2008 19:07
If you don’t read the entire article, obviously you will be lost. The article story and the pics refer to 3 years ago (2005) during the wedding celebration of Tom Parker Bowles.
Quote
At the time, William, now 25, had already started to date his current girlfriend, Kate Middleton.
She, however, was not present at the party - which may go some way to explaining the prince’s uninhibited behaviour.
Unquote
Please, talking about the need of selling old news.
Wills/Claudius I’m surprised that you all didn’t read thoroughly.
February 8th, 2008 19:10
You are right Claudius, it is sad. He seemed to be drunk as well. I also read the new about the ITV documentary, and it is a current story. I can’t wait to see it. In the Royalist website, it say’s that the Palace is one step ahead of the doc. The crew could not film on St. Andrews campus until the engagement is announced.
February 8th, 2008 19:17
My point is that if anyone just reads Will/Claudius comments, and don’t read the article story referring to a 3 year old event (2005) you would actually think that both gents are referring to a recent event ! Really sorry guys, but I have to say that I totally disagree with rush comments, when the facts are not based entirely with the facts of a referred article. The rest of the comments here are suppositions or wishes.
February 8th, 2008 19:18
Claudius,
Again I say. William has had many chances to dispel the rumours once and for all.
There would be no need for an immediate announcement of an engagement just a simple acknowledgement of Kate as his girl friend.
He has obstinately refused to do that and has by his actions, in fact, increased the possibility of rumours and press interest.
It may well have been the view also of the Queen and Prince Philip in Jan to March 2007 which led to their well documented split and William’s reported comment to the Queen that ‘he loved Kate, but not enough.’
What a superb comment about a loyal, loving partner of many years.
February 8th, 2008 19:23
Hi Guys,
I have just seen the photographs in the mail.
My comments earlier were made not having seen them.
It does however bring a further point to mind.
Has anyone seen William look so happy and uninhibited when out with Kate.?
February 8th, 2008 19:34
If william really loved kate they will be engaged right now. And william wouldn’t care about the media and ask her to marry him. He haven’t for a reason.
February 8th, 2008 19:38
Again Guys,
I have just had a gook look at the photographs and article.
Sorry to hog the airwaves but are we all so naive to believe that these photographs and articles have just come to light.
The quality and number of photographs clearly indicate some involvement of an official or semi official photogapher at the wedding.
Yet again it is the keeping of William’s name and photograph in the news without Kate Middleton.
Perhaps merrick is correct (see above)
February 8th, 2008 19:42
You know Will, you have a point. William actions are creating these rumors but you can tell that they don’t pay any attention to them. William seems to very serious when he is out with Kate and take that relationship seriously. He does actually smiles when he’s out with her but it’s not always photographed. Kate also seem to be in a royal mood when they are together. I think she is being trained. I do think William actions toward Kate will become more official when he gets through with RAF and have a little more time with her. He graduates in two months time.
February 8th, 2008 19:43
Yes Will, the article does say that he had during that party an uninhibited behaviour. Nevertheless, she is a person who was invited at the wedding celebration, if she was a regular friend in PW circle, we would know by now her name, social status, belongs to the family so and so, that is why the DM call her the mystery girl (party pics 2005 mention that at that time she was 25, thats it), who now has 28 years old. There also is a last posing pic with the blond, PW and a little girl that looks very much like the blond (maybe the little sis).
The question I would ask is, why would the DM publish pics of PW as old as 2005 ? Is the DM competing with ITV for the news and attention of the public ?
February 8th, 2008 20:11
I don’t think these photos just popped up by chance in the Daily Mail. The Daily Mail is usually championing Kate as William’s bride. This set of photos will not help sell that Fairy Tale, that the DMail has been trying to sell, so why would they unearth old photos of William dancing with another girl?.
Fact is William hasn’t been seen with Kate since before Christmas. We have had a lot of press of William on his own, flying, training, having dinner with friends, you can see that the Clarence House machine has gone into mode in promoting William as “Action Man”. These photos did not just pop up by chance. At these wedding parties aren’t they surrounded by friends, who would not dare release photos or be ostracized. How did these photos pop up on the front pages of the Daily Mail at this time and why? Surely no one would want to embarrass Kate if she was so close to engagement, it would be more lucrative for the Daily Mail to keep the Fairy Tale going.
February 8th, 2008 20:25
story now in the SUN
Why are these photos spreading.
Now…………odd
February 8th, 2008 20:39
Everybody should take a six month hiatus from the rumor mill and let nature take its course.
February 8th, 2008 20:54
That is very true. All of this will make your head spin.
February 8th, 2008 21:08
Now on the front page of the Express
On the Front Cover……
February 8th, 2008 21:44
The truth is guys, is that they are only now getting their hands on these pictures and they have to publish them. This does not mean William & Kate will split. Again, it does not mean that they are having problems. These pictures was never published, I know I have never seen them. They are just showing William having a good time and he just let this girl join in on the fun. As The Sun said, it was just a innocent dance. I think it’s very important for people to understand that because I feel everybody’s blood pressure is starting to rise and that’s just not good. LOL
February 8th, 2008 21:53
Newspapers starved of good royal stories/scandals will always start digging.
One of them hit the jackpot with access to the photos and then they’ve all run with it.
It’s just not an interesting story to them (or the newspaper buying public) without the photos.
February 8th, 2008 22:56
That is so true. They just want sell a royal story.
February 8th, 2008 23:26
OH MY GOD! How DARE William go out for curry without Kate! I can’t take it anymore - I’m going to have a seizure if these two don’t either get engaged or breakup once and for all - LOL!
This is how ridiculous this all is and how silly some people are about taking this stuff so seriously as if it were their own personal lives. Let the guy complete his military training, let Kate do what she has to do, Harry will do what he is doing and the same with Chelsy. The world will still go on. With all that’s going on in the world anyway, this is such trivial stuff it’s laughable how people get so worked up.
February 9th, 2008 04:00
Grandma828…you are right there, people need to let it take its course, if it works..fine…if not…oh well but it perhaps wasn’t meant to be.
Claudius…I don’t think people are specifically basing their arguements on this dance, after all it is old news. I think people are basing their arguements on other events that have…well really have not happened as Kate and William have not been seen together. Yes, you may argue that they have done so at somebody elses house or in private, but you cannot guarentee that. Claudius, you say that they smile at each other but it is not always photographed. Can I presume by that that you have met the couple and seen them many times? If so, then I would it if you could tell us more about the way that they interact…do they talk a lot together? Do they make each other laugh? You know… the little interactions which say “a couple in love”.
What I think people are saying and I have to admit I agree is that why would the press published these photos if an engagement is on the cards. If it was these pictures show a negative side to the couple, yes it was several years ago but human nature means that many people..not all… forget this.
The ITV interview is something that started ages ago before the break-up and before this long period with very little news about them. I would not therefore take it to be a reliable indication that Kate and William are to be engaged. They had probably just finished and wanted to add speclulation as a means of advertising.
Both ITV and the Daily Mail are now bored. Thy have a demand for Kate and William stories, but no whatever reasons, the supply is not meeting it. So they have created a mountain out of a molehill.
February 9th, 2008 06:04
Hi Guys,
Notwithstanding the rubbish written about the photographs of William in several papers today, which incidentally has absolutely no bearing on Kate and William’s relative positions.
Celia Walden in the Telegraph relates a very amusing but interesting article.
William’s first favourite at Univerity was a certain Carley Massy-Birch ,a Kate Middleton look alike, who is now an accomplished and established actress.
Several weeks after Kate’s modelling assignment William and Kate were at a University production of Othello with Carley playing the role of Bianca.
Theatrical buffs amongst us will recall the scene when Bianca finds Othello’s gift to Desdemona and accuses Othello of being unfaithful with her.
Carley looked straight at Kate and William in the audience and deliverd the famous or infamous line, and I quote,”This is some minx’s token, and I must take out the work! There, give it to your hobby-horse”
Apparently the house went still and quiet for several seconds and the atmosphere could be cut with a knife.
It appears that a leopard doesn’t after all change it’s spots but I think it fair to say that William had broken up with Carley before Kate came on the scene. That is what is said.
February 9th, 2008 06:16
Hey yall
With these old pictures of Prince William dancing with the blond “chick” being published, I think Will might get his wishes to see Kate in the news, I am 99% positive that she will go out clubbing soon, looking gorgeous and smiling to the paparazzi, after all that is what she does best. Anyways any news on Chelsy and Harry? I am dying to see them together that is why I always visit this site.
February 9th, 2008 06:44
Hi Renata,
It’s not a matter of Kate going out. The point I believe is to show William to advantage day by day WITHOUT Kate thus establishing William as a single person.
Then in several months people get used to the idea and Kate is no more.
I ‘m afraid that’s how it works
February 9th, 2008 16:44
It’s sad to say but I think some people are more concerned with seeing Kate and Wills get engaged just to satisfy their own hunger for a good royal love story, rather than seeing these 2 people happy in their lives, even if not with each other. Would you prefer Wills be pushed into an engagement and marriage and then we have another messy royal divorce down the road? Just let this whole thing take its own course - no matter the results. Wills is not going to be pushed into anything by anyone and if he truly feels he is absolutely not ready to marry ANYONE at this time, then he’s smarter than you’re giving him credit for. Again, this is between Kate and Wills - if she’s fed up, she can leave him and vice versa.
