Princes visit Injured British Soldiers

William and Harry today visited Headley Court, the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre in Surrey, which will be one of the beneficiaries of the concert and pageant on May 7.

At the centre Harry was reunited with one of the injured servicemen who shared his return flight from his tour of duty in Afghanistan.

One of the soldiers they met was Lance Sergeant Adam Ball, 23, stationed with 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards in Aldershot. He lost a leg when he stepped on an explosive device in Afghanistan eight months ago and has spent the last six months at Headley Court.

“I’m happy that the princes have come today, it’s good that they come and show an interest in what we are doing and see how we are getting on,” he said. [view video]

“With Harry having done it himself he knows the ins and outs and it’s more like banter, talking to an Officer maybe, than talking to a royal.”

William said: “As brothers, we are delighted to be supporting the City of London in saluting all those who serve their country. As well as raising money for vital rehabilitation facilities, City Salute is an opportunity for us all to celebrate the fantastic contribution made by our servicemen and women and their families.”

“It is also a chance to pay tribute to the casualty evacuation and medical staff of all three Services who protect and care for the wounded so brilliantly and with such tireless dedication,” he said. (via The Telegraph)

Harry seems so down to earth with the way he interacts with others. It seems so natural, not forced. Good job guys! I wonder if they realize what their visits do for normal people. They can bring such happiness to people who are suffering by just their presence. It is something very special and they should feel blessed each and everyday for it. The press can be brutal to them, but I feel we all know they are capable of doing great things, they just need to realize their privilege and what it means and not take advantage of it but use it to help others.

I am glad Harry and William are visiting injured soliders who just got back from Afghanistan. It’s probably to support the troops who were injured.

William does appear down in this picture. Maybe he is thinking how his actions must have appeared to the public being up close with these REAL heroes. I truly hope he is remorseful for his insensitivities that angered so many. I certainly hope he learned a valuable lesson. I am glad he met with these brave young men and hopefully this made him feel humble. There is not a day goes by that I don’t think about all the troops who defend our countries and enable us to feel safe and free. I salute all the troops and God Bless them all.

    Hi bluefire,

Sometimes if a link looks a bit iffy or it contains a swear word (even if it’s actually part of another word) the comment will go to moderation. Also if the same user submits multiple links one after another in quick succession the site thinks you’re trying to spam it.

Please be patient when this happens - when I get home from work I sort through all the comments and release all the legitimate ones.

It’s very hard to find a balance between allowing legitimate links and stopping all the spam! I’m looking at some other ways of handling this.

Again, please be patient because the website isn’t something I do fulltime.

    Thanks - Steven
