Daily Mail: Queen wants Kate to get a Job

PHOTO - Kate MiddletonThe Queen wants Prince William’s girlfriend Kate Middleton to get a proper full-time job before the young couple consider getting married.

There is renewed speculation that the couple, who recently enjoyed a romantic holiday in the Caribbean, are about to announce an engagement.

But Britain’s The Mail on Sunday newspaper said the Queen was worried that a proposal would be both premature and ill-advised.

Sources close to the Queen said she was concerned that William’s public image could suffer if the public did not consider Middleton, 26, to be a working professional in her own right.

“The Queen is very aware that it’s a serious and long-term relationship,” a senior aide told the Mail.

“Although they are not yet engaged, it seems more likely than not that Kate will be a Royal bride one day, and the Queen is of the opinion that Kate should be working.”

She quit her job as an accessories buyer for High Street chain Jigsaw at the end of last year and announced that she wanted to pursue a career as a photographer.

Middleton, who has been dubbed “waity Katie” because her life is in “limbo”, has spent the past three months working for her parent’s mail-order company, Party Pieces, photographing new stock for its website.

“It’s not what you would call a nine-to-five job,” said a friend of the Middleton’s.

“It’s an easy number for Kate and basically something to fill her days while she waits for William.”

Sources close to her said she has no immediate work plans while the 25-year-old prince goes through for his final attachment with the Royal Navy.

William is set to begin a two-month deployment in the Royal Navy, on board HMS Iron Duke, a frigate that will be on hurricane relief duty and counter-narcotics patrol in the Caribbean. (via NineMSN)

What a chicken the Queen is made out to be in this article. Doesn’t she have the guts to talk to Kate directly? Does she have to talk to her through an aide and via the Daily Mail? I so do not believe that the Queen would operate in such a way.

The royal family moves slowly but it does move forward.

Although pictures and stories featuring Middleton appear constantly in the press, she has never spoken publicly and the British people know next to nothing about what kind of person she really is.

This will all change if and when she accepts William’s proposal. She will instantly become public property.

    June 1st, 2008 09:48

She has had her past raked over in the hunt for a scandal, she has been pursued around the clock by up to 20 photographers and, perhaps worst of all, her family — the bedrock of her life — has been publicly ridiculed. To make matters worse, the basis of the slurs was untrue, but discretion — the dogma that the royal family lives by of “never explain, never complain” — meant the Middletons felt unable to answer back.

I love the Daily Mail article, it points out what many have been stating for months, Kate’s non-work ethic does go against her chances of becoming Williamâ’s wife.

The article states much of the obvious, Kate has done this to herself, with her actions since University. She decided to pursue, Partying, vacationing, and waiting for William, that hasn’t gone over well in some quarters, evidently.

This article make all parties look bad but most of all the writer, who really puts herself out on a limb. I am starting to think it boils down to the fact that when you put Kate Middleton and the Queen in print in the same story, papers sell. Facts are a afterthought. Chances are the parties involved know this and are able to laugh it off.

The Kate haters are very vocal, no question there. I look at it this way…the day she gets into the carriage for her ride to the church, instead of watching the wedding, those folks can choose to work out, shop, eat lunch or get their hair done!

I hardly feel she is desperate to be Queen. I think she is totally in love with her boyfriend and estatic about becoming his wife and having a family. Nothing desperate about that. Quite normal if you ask me. As for her work ethic, Does anyone know for certain she isn’t helping with her family’s business. We seen the paparazzi attention when she worked at Jigsaw. It would be much more simple to work from home and have a flexible schedule to take whatever trips she likes (not funded by the taxpayers)

Sorry for double post. I think HM knows CM position and it would be hard for CM to have a 9-5 job, and to be kept safe; nightmare! But isn’t she already working for the family business? When my dad was alive, we kids all worked for him. It was in Real Estate, open houses and the like, took up all of our time. Kept us out of trouble.

Thats a good point and I believe that. I’d be very dissapointed if all of a sudden the Queen has turned tacky to tell senior aids or courtiers to go ahead and whisper to the press.

And in reference to her job with the family, I totally I agree with you and even better, I also have experience working for the family and its more time consuming and stressfull - any family business - I also have had discussions about this with friends that their families also own business and its a lot of work.

  • lisa
    June 2nd, 2008 17:06

probably the most annoying aspect of this whole thing is that no one is doing anything to clarify these claims. If these claims by Katie Nicholls are not true then someone from Clarence House should be working behind the scenes at least to shut this woman up! She is running amok and legitamite news resources are listening. The Daily Mail is one thing. It’s a tabloid and everyone knows it. But CBS news is a whole different story. Catherine’s character is being attacked here and because of her position, she cannot respond therefore someone needs to do it for her! moreover, if this is the feeling of the Queen, then she should have taken steps to insure that the matter was properly handled privately.

  • Jane
    June 2nd, 2008 17:23

I agree with Ali. Kate Middleton clearly shows she’s working on her royal class, which no way to work for someone commoner. The study in Arts was only the bridge to get the prince, whoever this prince is and whatever he looks like, she just simply wants to be a princess, a queen. Just don’t deny it Kate Middleton.

  • Tanya
    June 2nd, 2008 17:27

I agree with Jane, and therefore KM is willing to do anything to please the royal family, whatever it takes to be a royal! She seems tight lips, but not really, just how the news find little details on KM and Prince William’s feelings? Hmmm, someone is using friends, and friends, then friends, then the press. Ssst, not directly from KM or her family.

The other odd aspect of this episode is that one would assume these sensational articles are being created with the hopes of selling papers,w hich in the short haul will probably work. However the long range picture is quite different. If all this pressure from the press somehow becomes too much and sends Catherine running for the hills, then you have a single prince who has to start his quest for a bride all over again. I would have to ask Ms Nicholls…what would sell more papers? A single prince with no bride on the horizon or a Royal engagement with the wedding of the century coming down the pike?

Jaqueline,I agree completely. It would not surprise me one bit to see KN get sacked for this. Catherine is holding all the cards in this game,IMO. The firm needs to step up and end this nonsense once and for all. I can only imagine the stress this trashy piece of so called journalism has caused .

For anyone who thinks that Catherine is not in the drivers seat here, think of this…the last thing HM or anyone of the RF would want is a distressed CM running for the hills. Not that she would ever do it, but her tell all book would surely be one not forgotten for decades.

  • Jacqueline
    June 2nd, 2008 19:23

Thanks Lisa, so called journalism, agreed. If I didn’t have full respect for Catherine before, she has my alliegence now. For all the years of media abuse she and her family, have had to endure, no wonder PW loves her and hangs around with her family. This is what makes them a solid, and foundational family. They can take it, and not dish it out. I think it’s about time that PW shows that he is good enough for the Middletons. A new tack on the story, ne ce pas?

  • Babton
    June 3rd, 2008 03:28

This is all complete rubbish, most likely.
The last “commoner” to join the Royal Family was Sophie, who married the queens youngest son. She had a good professional job and wanted to continue it, but was complelled to give it all up, because of fierce criticism that a “royal” (or anyone with royal contacts) would attract suspicion of using, or being able to use, the royal contacts to further their trade or business.
So it seems highly unlkely that the queen would now be suggesting a course of action directly contrary to past “form”.

I’m sure if the Queen indeed wnated Ktae to work, she would have told her in private and I’m sure the palace would have helped Kate to fina and appropriate profession somewhere. However she hasn’t and that leads me to believe that noone “told her to get a job” (except for Katie Nicholls ;-) )

Isn’t Camilla the last commoner to join the RF? Basically Diana being an aristocrat was obviously the exception not the rule when it came to royal brides in the generation of the Queen’s children. Fergie, Sophie, Mark (?) Phillips and Anne’s second husband whose name escapes me right now and Camilla are all commoners, right?

    June 3rd, 2008 05:47

    Hello,

A friend has just brought to my notice the hundreds of news stories generated from the Daily Mail’s ‘The Queen says’ story.

KM’s reputation is in tatters world wide and will reflect upon her through the years ahaead even if she does become PW’s bride and a future Queen.

The Palace must generate a retraction either by an official statement, which is unlikely, or by countering the leak with a counter leak which would be feasible.

However if the leak was genuine and deliberate then any further relationship between PW and KM would be impossible as PW would then be seen to be going against the Queen and he dare not do that.

I have difficulty believing this course was intended by The Palace but it certainly needs to be rectified without any further delay.

The damage to KM and her family is disastrous , however strong KM is but ultimately that damage will also reflect on the Queen and the Royal family in future years.

    That too would be disastrous.

  • BRW
    June 3rd, 2008 05:55

    Hi ked,

I personally think the story is made up.

But I don’t think that the palace or Kate Middleton should enter into discussions on the matter.

This would only serve to fan the fire the Daily Mail lit. And it wouldn’t matter what the Palace or KM said in response - the papers would still twist it to get the “juiciest” story they could.

    Steven

  • ked
    June 3rd, 2008 06:09

    Steven,

I’m afraid I didn’t think of that aspect but my concern was the damage being promulgated by these scurrilous stories being circulated in countries world wide.

Traditionally I know that The Palace ,CH etc do not comment one way or another on newspaper articles but this story surely is fundamental to the stability and acceptance of a relationship between two young people, not just between a Prince and a wonderful, loyal partner.

  • trixie
    June 3rd, 2008 06:21

I wouldn’t worry about any damage done to her reputation now. Luckily enough people tend to forget rather quickly and if she becomes a hard-working Princess noone will remember articles like this anymore.
I agree with Steven that Will and Kate shouldn’t abide by the the will of the tabloids. Actuall it’ll be bad for Kate to get herself a job right now since that will look like she was “blackmailed” into it by the paper and just attempting PR damage control. Just continue living your life and ignore what they write.

    Hello,

    Anyone believe in coincidence.

Just reading that PW will be spending 3 weeks shore training in Dartmouth and will then sail away for a few weeks on a destroyer.

This probably leaves the date for the Garter ceremony free but he will then sail away before his birthday on 21st.

Prince Charles sailed away in a destroyed after his birthday but left the girl he was with at home.

He didn’t make his feelings clear or commit himself so she married someone else.

How ironic if another girl, feeling neglected, alone and abandoned to the press nasties, decided it was time for some mountain (rather than hill) climbing

  • Jess
    June 3rd, 2008 09:01

I agree with Rman. I think the press are tired of waiting for something to happen. So if they’re not printing engagement rumours they’re looking for other excuses as to why there isn’t an engagement yet. I say sit back and see what happens when Wills finishes with the military. I think then we’ll have a clearer indication of where this relationship is going. I also agree with Me on Katie Nicholls. She’s not exactly reliable and there is something really irrating about her.

Can you imagine working for your parents internet based company that sells cheap children’s party favors??!!

The Queen, William and his “crowd” must cringe. Remember, doors to manual?

Ms Middleton is just an ordinary middle class English girl. It must be really difficult for her to be around English society. The upper crust girls are so beautiful in a very natural way. They don’t go in for all that cheesy black eye makeup nor the cheap clothes.

  • Me
    June 3rd, 2008 09:10

Yes I can imagine the money of the thousands of families who have children buying from them. The QEII and PW should be happy to know that this family has worked hard and represent the idea of making money on your own right.
Ms Middleton and the entire family should be proud of their achievements, I think her family has given and acted better than any aristo snobbish remark by not answering back, that hurts, perhaps the aristos thought (or shall I say the DM again) that the family would hit back, but no, they are above those tramp tactics.

    Hello,

I really think the engagement question is being overplayed and irritates lots of people from PW to our simple readers.

If it’s going to happen it will be on some random day, at some random place.

However I feel that day and place may still be many, many months or years off.

    Patience.

  • Rman
    June 3rd, 2008 09:18

That’s what it is Jess, it eats at them and sadly it produces made up stories but to be frank, I think William has control over these things and he and Catherine have discussed their future and know not to pay attention to some of the press. Today you can see that there’s no worry lines in his face and at the wedding there were worry lines in her face. They are just happy and that is evident. Hello! Magazine got it right by saying he is sailing towards his future. But others decided to not believe that and see that, they love those made up stories. It expands their imagination.

  • Jess
    June 3rd, 2008 09:31

Maybe the reason why William went for Kate in the first place is because she is so different to all those upper class english girls. He picked her because she had something that the other girls didn’t have and more than likely something William has longed for his entire life. A normal life. Where the parents are together, they go to work and the children are not from a background where everything is automatically provided for them because they’re loaded. People may say that now Kate seems to have everything provided for her. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it was at a cost. Her parents are millionaires but I doubt they are worth the amount some of the people in William’s circle are worth.
I think William went for Kate simply because she is different to the girls that hung around him while he was growing up and her upbringing is different. It’s likely that was what made her stand out from the crowd of other girls who have had anything they wants from the day they were born and comes from a loaded upper class background. Instead of a spoilt socialite he’s gone for a normal middleclass girl who hasn’t had the priviledges these upper class girls have had or upbringing and maybe he feels that a middleclass girl like Kate would be good for the Royal Family.
Whether he’s made the right choice remains to be seen and only he can make that decision, and noone else.

However whereas everyone else is routing for an engagement this article isn’t too source that an engagement will happen yet. There are questions put forward and the answer seems to be that none has a clue when the engagement will be and we may have even longer to wait than next year.
It does make me wonder whether it’ll ever happen. I could be wrong and W&K will surprise us but that is my opinion for the time being.

    Read this today -

After a frantic search, Peter was found slumped in a shop doorway. The party then headed to their hotel with a gaggle of girls in tow.

At 2am Wills, a GIRL CHUM (GiGi?) and two lads went into a function(?) room and began playing drinking games.

They stood in a circle and the heir to the throne pulled down his trousers as part of a drinking fine. Revealing a pair of royal blue boxers.

He pulled down his pants in front of GiGi?!!
I guess that’s when the fun began.

So, that’s what they call the lap dancer - a GIRL CHUM!

Wow! Who filmed the video and who has it?

Jenny - someone needs to interview GiGi.
I’m sure she would have a very interesting story to tell.
    GiGi - call us.
