Royal Wedding Rumours

‘If Kate Middleton wants to marry Prince William, she’ll get him’ - Telegraph
Kate Middleton has, according to royal watchers, been given the official status of ‘Girlfriend’. Creating ripples are the reports this week that Kate refused the Queen’s invitation to host her own table at the Royal Box during Ascot. “Insiders” have been quoted as saying that she did not want to be seen as a stand-in for Prince William or to look as if she was taking advantage of a dubious royal status…

Wedding Bells for Wills & Kate? - OK! Magazine
If the old adage “the couple that plays together stays together” is to be believed, then Prince William and Kate Middleton are a solid bet for the future. The lovebirds are often seen partying with friends as well as attending concerts and sporting events, and it’s this kind of foundation that leads many royal experts to believe that William and Kate will announce their engagement next spring…

I do wish this Katie Nicholl person would crawl back under the rock in which she came from. As if *she* would know how PW is spending his birthday. She used the occasion of his birthday to highlight his hair loss. How odd it was that she did not report on Kate’s appearance at Windsor, something that would actually be driven by fact. Oh wait, that would be too inconsistant with her previous “reporting”.

A Happy Birthday to Prince William!

    Hello,

IF PW has a birthday party and IF KM is there I think it’s the first time they have been together at either his or hers birthday for about 4 years.

    Princess William?

I don’t think so. I think the Telegraph got that one wrong. Not many royal houses are using that form any more. The palace announced when Charles and Diana married that she would NOT be styled Princess Charles–I think Princess Michael of Kent will likely be the last to use this form in the House of Windsor.

However, this would mean the Queen would have to do something else since Prince William has no other titles. I see three possibilities:

    1. There are more than half a dozen extinct dukedoms historically associated with the royal family, including Albany, Cambridge, Clarence, and Windsor. Supposedly a couple of them were considered for Prince Edward, but ultimately thought to have unfortunate associations. If William were created a duke, I think it would be a nice touch to give him the subsidiary title of Earl of Middleton (it’s presently extinct)–something of a modern touch, I think.

    2. He could possibly take one of his father’s subsidiary titles by courtesy, such as Earl of Chester (and Earl of Carrick in Scotland, which would be a nice parallel to his father’s dual usage). But I know of no historical precedent for this and the title Earl of Chester has an historical attachment to the heir apparent. Still, Earl and Countess of Chester has a nice ring to it.

    3. The Queen could simply announce that she will be styled Princess Catherine. If you go by the precedent with Princess Alice of Gloucester, the Queen wouldn’t even have to issue letters patent or an order in council. Princess Alice wasn’t a princess in her own right, but didn’t want to be called the Dowager Duchess of Gloucester. There is now a precedent that usage may change simply by having the palace announce “the queen says so”. She never formally changed the Letters Patent issued by George V that make all grandchildren of the sovereign in the male line princes and princesses and styled HRH. Otherwise Viscount Severn and Lady Louise would be styled TRH Prince John and Princess Louise.

However, bear in mind that changes like this usually happen slowly. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

    homogenius,

I think it’s very unlucky to count one’s chickens.

Start thinking about names when the engagement is announced

I think there is along way to go yet

Perhaps. But the same holds true no matter who he marries (unless he married a princess–damn, wouldn’t he and Princess Madeleine look smashing together? LOL).

Besides, I’m not counting my chickens, I’m counting hers.
