Zara Phillips will appear on Strictly Come Dancing
Zara Phillips has agreed to appear in this autumn’s series of the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, in a move that is likely to infuriate traditionalists in royal circles.
Miss Phillips, who is granddaughter to the Queen and 12th in line to the throne, has signed an early stage agreement to appear in ballroom dancing contest, to the delight of BBC bosses.
However a source close to Miss Phillips indicated that her involvement with the show may not go down well with everyone in the Royal Family. The source told Sunday Mirror: The Queen may have something to say about Zara appearing on a live TV show every Saturday. Many in royal circles will find it inappropriate.”
But the BBC hope Miss Phillips will boost viewing figures as they go head-to-head with ITV’s popular Saturday night reality contest, The X Factor.

Hello all,
I can’t quite make out if this story in the Telegraph can be interprited as a official claim or just another news story.
Zara Phillips on Strictly Come Dancing as the European Champion is acceptable but ZP as HM’s granddaughter is a different proposition and unfortunately each report on the weekly show would certainly include the words, “the Queen’s granddaughter.”
I can’t see how that can be acceptable or fair to the other competitors or even to her partner in the show. The pressure would be intense
and the TV ratings would reflect her progress in the show to the possible detriment of the other competitors.
The absence of any reference to Zara’s partner MT is strange as initially it was speculated that they would both be in the show in a similar fashion as the ex Scottish Rugby player and his TV presenter wife last season.
There is no mention of him in the article so perhaps it was never their intention to include him or perhaps there are other reasons.
He is a big strong guy so perhaps it would perhaps be difficult to match him with a partner.
All this doesn’t clarify the position as to the advisability of including ZP without MT in the show or even if she should be included at all.
We shall have to see if the ‘early stage’ contract is followed through with the full contract.

Does anyone know how Zara supports herself. Her broher Peter and his wife both have jobs in the private sector. Zara is out of the olympics now, but I haven’t heard anything about her applying for work. What kind of education does she have? What kind of work is she trained for? Since she does no royal work and gets nothing from the Civit List how does she support her lifestyle?

I think she is sponsored, she does represent some brands, and the sponsoring includes other then the products, money – which she uses to maintain her horses and herself.
