Kate Middleton ‘Mucked In’ at Jigsaw
thisislondon.co.uk has posted an interview with Belle Robinson, founder of Jigsaw, the UK fashion chain where Kate Middleton was employed last year…
“Until December 2006 you’d probably never even heard of the Robinsons. But all that changed when Belle offered Kate Middleton a job at Jigsaw. The press went mad. Acres were written about how the Robinsons were close family friends of Kate’s parents. Belle was hailed as Kate’s “fairy godmother” and a key fixer at the court of “King William”. Paparazzi besieged Jigsaw’s head office in Kew. It was claimed Kate was art-directing fashion shoots.
Kate supported a couple of Jigsaw events we did. Then she rang me up one day and said: ‘Could I come and talk to you about work?’ She genuinely wanted a job but she needed an element of flexibility to continue the relationship with a very high-profile man and a life that she can’t dictate. She’s going to be dictated to when she’s needed and not needed.”
Together Belle and Kate worked out a job in accessories that she could do three days a week. “And I have to say I was so impressed by her. There were days when there were TV crews at the end of the drive. We’d say: ‘Listen, do you want to go out the back way?’ And she’d say: ‘To be honest, they’re going to hound us until they’ve got the picture. So why don’t I just go, get the picture done, and then they’ll leave us alone.’ I thought she was very mature for a 26-year-old, and I think she’s been quite good at neither courting the press nor sticking two fingers in the air at them. I don’t think I would have been so polite.”

About Kate: “No personality, no career, no dress sense, no life. Get it together, girl.” (from The Times) – I worried with Belle and a “worthy” newspaper saying things like these… The Times love to bash Kate more than Kate Nicholl and DM.
July 22nd, 2008 08:25
This is a first time i read a bad news of catherine Middleton, i don’t know how to choose between Belle or Catherine? cause maybe both of them had a mistake problem at Jingsaw job.
i’m shock that hear about Wills and Catherine with they pal’s doesn’t pay at mistique when they holiday in there! this is really true or not? they are a rich young couple, why they doesn’t pay it??
July 22nd, 2008 08:39
I think what we are seeing here, judging by Kate’s pragmatic attitude, esp. with her remark to the effect of, let’s “get the picture done” is that she is going to be one very savvy Princess with the press. She knows the game, in other words, and she is on top of her game. This will certainly stand her in good stead because whilst we know she absolutley hates the publicity, she has accepted that it is simply part of what comes with being in love with her man, and will be a fact of life once she is his Princess.
All I have to say, to paraphrase Lady Thatcher: “Courage, Kate, courage.”
July 22nd, 2008 08:40
no career: probably, no life: nobody knows and I don’t believe, but “no personality and no dress sense” is absolutely wrong!
Who wants to read bad things about her and goes to DM is wasting time. The Times is much more against Kate than any tabloid.
PS: the quote was in a UP/ DOWN silly article and Kate was clearly in DOWN. I think these “respectful” newspapers should write a “DOWN” article about themselves for write things “worthy” only to make real tabloids envy. Why they don’t admit dislike her instead search baseless arguments to make she looks the worst?
July 22nd, 2008 08:42
My last post was the part 2 of the first
July 22nd, 2008 10:03
Is one objective of this article reputation repair? I think it does the opposite and further confirms to me that she does not own her soul and is not a good role model for young women. I agree that the comment “medieval” from another reader of that article says it all. For goodness sakes, we are in the 21st century. It looks like the wave of anti-work Kate comments is flooding in the UK press and she and her PR folks are trying to stem the tide. Funny, that at the same time, the senior RF has been receiving highly positive press lately.
July 22nd, 2008 12:01
You all know that the only problem I have with Kate is the fact that she does not work -otherwise I think that she is good for William.
However, I am concerned about the comment:
“a life that she can’t dictate. She’s going to be dictated to when she’s needed and not needed.”
She is a young woman and should be able to organise her own life. But I don’t really understand whos dictating what to her at the moment and why she cannot get a job. She has only been to 2 weddings, 1 Garter ceremony and 1 wings ceremony with royals this year and she could have taken holiday time for that. So what is she being dictated about and why as she is not a fiancee or even a bride?
July 22nd, 2008 12:39
I would ask William that question.
July 22nd, 2008 13:04
and her. BUT the BRF will not deny or say yes to any articles from the press good or bad, KM has adopted the same posture as of her own families will or dictated.
And B, how do you know for a fact that she is not working ? What if one day we receive confirmation that she is working for the Middleton business ?
July 22nd, 2008 13:09
which by the way, She or her family IMO will never mention. What for ? to be acused that they are using any kind of media form saying “Yes she works for Party Pieces”. Wouldn’t that be publicity, PR, answering back to the press, etc.
Its no ones business really because she is only the “girlfriend” and is a private citizen, if she ever gets engaged to PW, I am 100% sure that CH (PW) PR, Press secretary, the firms machinery will pull out an official bio of Catherine Elizabeth Middleton.
Wait until she’s married and does her “royal duties”, she may surprise the nayers.
July 22nd, 2008 13:17
You all know how I feel about Kate working or not — it’s not any of my busniess, but my basic POV is, if she doesn’t have to work then good for her.
Personally speaking, no, I don’t know what she does to fill up her days but I’m sure someone as intelligent and nice as she’s rumoured to be finds something to do. Does she walk the family dog perhaps? Does she help her Mum with the dinner dishes? Who knows, maybe she even Hoovers the carpets at home. We have seen pictures of her bicycling around Buckelebury, and we can see with our own eyes that she is fit, so that probably takes a fair amount of time up. She is also obviously very well-groomed, and since we gals know “there ain’t no such thing as a natural beauty” that’s taking time and effort during her day as well.
She was at the Stalin book party last year with her sister, so I’ll bet you she might enjoy reading during the day. That’s a great skill, that she is learning about serious subjects because that will make her a better conversationalist at the State Dinners she will have to attend.
Who knows, she might even be taking a Berlitz course in Spanish, or Hungarian, maybe even Finnish.
So, I think it’s fair to say she definitely doesn’t just sit around all day waiting for PW to call.
July 22nd, 2008 13:18
Me, I just read your post and I agree 100%.
July 22nd, 2008 13:39
exactly alsgal
July 22nd, 2008 13:43
I hope Kate gets a nice job with great salary.
July 22nd, 2008 14:00
I heard from a friend who visited one of the clubs in london that rumours are that Kate is in Edinburgh photographing the launch of a new line of aromatherapy scents with the daughter of Anita Roddick called Smellegance. Has anyone else here got more info on that?
July 22nd, 2008 14:09
Prince William has paid tribute to his late mother The Princess of Wales in his new crest.

dizzy13 “Smellegance” what a name
No, I haven’t heard anything.
July 22nd, 2008 14:19
dizzy13 but it would be very interesting a job with Dame Anita Roddick’s daughter.
July 22nd, 2008 14:40
Guys you can see a couple of clips from Lady Rose’s wedding here and it includeds Kate. It was very nice that she tried to give the press a couple of smiles.

July 22nd, 2008 15:20
I just saw that article, Rman…..William is wunnerful.
July 22nd, 2008 15:30
GREAT, GREAT and GREAT! Thanks Rman, video are always better than pictures, and Kate is fabulous in “motion”, so class and so nice. I love her way, she seems to be a wonderful person.
Looking at Edward and Sophie I see W and k are a couple more discreet/low profile like them. They don’t walk holding hands neither looking to each other all the time, but we can see there are much harmony in their relationship and that they have a real marriage. I’m saying it b/c some suppose they (W&K) don’t love each other just b/c they don’t play romantic scenes in public (to the press), PDA as you say.
July 22nd, 2008 15:34
Anyone else notice in that video that Kate didn’t have to show her invitation or pass to get in? Her friends did but she didn’t! Just like members of the family didn’t.
July 22nd, 2008 15:36
Rman thank you, video no. 5 – did you notice that the paparazzi don’t picture anyone leaving the chapel, but KM leaves the chapel all the flashes…poor girl, thank God, she has a nice smile.
July 22nd, 2008 16:13
I think it was very brave of Kate to accept the invitation to go, knowing that she would probably upstage the bride just by being there(notice how she took the care not to wear anything too bright or showy, although of course, she was attractively dressed.) It’s obvious to me that she was taking pains not to “stand out” and I applaud her for that.
July 22nd, 2008 16:15
dizzy13,
It was mentioned on here several weeks ago that KM may be involved in preparing a ‘catalogue’ with a line of perfumes but I don’t think any product was named.
It should be interesting when launched and I hope she gets the acknowledgment due.
If she was involved or prepared her parents latest Internet catalogue then she has talent in this field.
Perhaps this may satisfy some of the idiots who continue to be allowed to criticise her in print.
Unfortunately being of such low intelligence they will now be jealous of her talent or criticise her for using her position as the current Girlfriend of PW and make their comments accordingly.
July 22nd, 2008 16:23
Its going to be that way.
I’ll mark your words.
July 22nd, 2008 16:27
Ked,
that makes me think there might be some truth to that rumour then.
Judging by the work she’s done on the PP website, Smellegance would be lucky to have her discerning eye. Photography is not an easy art to master, it’s far more complicated then many assume.
Interesting that she’d be doing this now, in Edinburgh. Could a trip or two to Balmoral be worked in, I wonder, once PW gets back?
If she’s not already engaged, I can almost imagine that perhaps a proposal in a muddy field, surrounded by the heather, might be on its way?
July 22nd, 2008 16:37
Well lets hope she’s not taking the photos for her daughter Sam’s web site Coco La Mer, which sells sex toys, etc. They also sell aromotherapy as well. I don’t think taking photos of items for sexual arousal would sit to well with RF. Kate seems to have interesting friends.
July 22nd, 2008 16:40
Unless its her other daughter Justine who is starting smellegance.
July 22nd, 2008 16:52
dizzy13,
Last paragraph.
Don’t get carried away, you’re going to have to learn patience.
It’s months and months away.
July 22nd, 2008 16:59
I think William will come up with a fun proposal. Charles proposed to Diana over a romantic dinner by the fireplace so I think he will be very creative on this. If he hasn’t done this already. Everyone is waiting for him to get back so he can recieve his medal of service from the US coastguard. I believe Kate can hardly wait. As we can see in the video, Kate handled herself like a pro and I just loved the way she laughed at the paps calling her name. I did notice that she didn’t show her invitation but her friends did. It seems like the police was very aware who she is and one was blocking the paps view of her and you can hear them telling the officer to move. She seem to be well adjusted to this and not nervous.
July 22nd, 2008 17:20
Ked, forgive me but it is hard not to get excited at the prospect of a Royal Wedding of this magnitude (my apologies to Lady Rose.)
As for a possible involvement with Coco La Mer, I think Kate has shown a rather mature openmindedness towards this sort of thing, at least judging from her involvement with the Sisterhood people in last year’s dragonboat race for the children’s charity. It seemed she only pulled out not because of Emma Sayles reputation as an arranger of adult sex parties, but rather due to a (rightful) fear of the paps possibly causing them to drown in the Channel. In other words, Kate is a big picture sort of girl, one who will do what it takes for the greater good, which in that case was to raise money for those poor kiddos.
She also went to the Bunny Ears premiere about erm, let’s call them battery operated personal devices (sorry, I know this is a family forum here) and shows a rather down to earth attitude towards that.
The Royals are not prudish, even the Queen has had Ann Summers to BP, so I think they are not as judgemental as some of our posters on this whole issue.
July 22nd, 2008 17:22
Rman,
It is a rule in British Army,Navy and RAF that foreign medals and decorations may not be worn on uniforms.
PW will therefore not be able to wear a USA Coastguard award in uniform.
If anyone knows if that regulation has been repealed I would be grateful to hear details as it was a family thing.
July 22nd, 2008 17:32
dizzy13,
I think we should all get real.
I and many more of us have like KM and PW been to university and live in the real world and are growm up adults.
These subjects are accepted, talked about without compunction and it is only the narrow minded who would try to hold up any involvement with events like Bunny Ears as being a criticism of KM or anyone else.
July 22nd, 2008 17:34
Rman,
Don’t go down that path, Prince Andrew was also said to have proposed in a similar manner.
No repeats please !
July 22nd, 2008 17:36
Guys,
Sorry for numerous postings.
Different subjects perhaps.
July 22nd, 2008 17:56
Ked, although I’ve never been to University, I have a Ph.D. in cosmotology (I’m a Professional Hair Dresser
) I too, see the importance of having an open mind about such things, and think it’s just plain stupid to think it reflects badly on Kate’s character in any way, because it doesn’t.
Rman, as far as an engagement proposal, I feel it will be simple and low-key, as William is not the extravagant sort like his father, who I believe offered Diana lobster that fateful evening. Hence, why I suggested the field: it’s pretty, it’s private, and it’s free.
July 22nd, 2008 18:12
Ked no matter what happened to the marriages Charles & Andrew’s weddings was very beautiful and will never be forgotten. But I know that William will do things in a simple way. I know that he can’t wear the medal but I know he will be excited to recieve it.
July 22nd, 2008 18:30
Whatever it takes to be accepted by the Queen, KM (CM) will do, whatever it takes until the day she says “I do”.
July 22nd, 2008 18:34
To add and/or improve self-learning, it is not bad at all to read: How to propose to a prince, by Kathryn Caskie.
July 22nd, 2008 19:50
The RF is a pretty wild bunch history proves it. So I am sure that sex toys are nothing new to them. It’s all about image and that would not be a good image for them. I have been married for 15years and older than most on this site. I am no prude. But let us not forget Koo-Stark, so the RF is not that laid back. The RF doesn’t need anymore drama or the RF will be no more. Why is it open-minded to take photos for sex stuff and not open-minded to have plastic surgery?
July 22nd, 2008 21:52
That video of Kate in Lady Rose’s wedding shows one savvy lady! I increasingly admire how she handles herself in public. Very graceful. And it’s funny how moans of “Kate kate kate…” echo once she’s in the frame… like desperate lost puppies.
July 23rd, 2008 03:28
Rman – great find with the video – thanks for sharing!
July 23rd, 2008 18:39
Oh, this Kate, is such a hanger-on and her social climbing family is obvious. Glad this woman is telling the truth about lazy Kate.
Run
July 23rd, 2008 19:20
Thanks BRW, people don’t know that you can go that site and see lots of videos of events but sometimes it takes awhile for them to put the videos up. You can see videos of William, Harry, The Queen, Charles and other royals. You can also see the entire wings ceremony when William got his wings and it includes Kate, Charles, Sarah and Camilla. Merrick, it’s just obvious that people don’t like Kate’s low profile and they want her to be at a job in London so paps can hound her like they did when she was at Jigsaw. William’s move on this is brillant and many people don’t like it, that’s tough.
July 23rd, 2008 19:44
Like here’s the entire video of the wings ceremony. Some of it is muted but not all.

merrick,
Do you not have anything intelligent to say? If not, please go away. There are plenty of other sites you can visit where they trash Kate all day. I pity people like you. Spending all day writing mean things about a woman you know nothing about. Or is it that you actually believe Prince William cares at all about your opinion? Because he doesn’t. Kate is in his life, she’s his choice. Deal with it!
July 24th, 2008 06:14
i hope catherine middleton, have a nice and good job. i just have 3 questiond to be asked first, where will catherine spend her christmas in her family or in the windsor’s. second, when will zara philips will join the olympics? and lastly when will be the performance of the spice girls be seen in prince charle’s bday concert, what exact day.? thanks!

merrick,
I actually not believe that KM is a social climber, I believe her mother is a social climber.
I think that KM’s mom has pushed KM and her sister Pippa on dating royalty.
