The silly season continues…
Prince William is desperate to get a tattoo – but worries girlfriend Kate Middleton would think it was “chavvy”.
Wills, 26, told Navy pals he wanted a huge inking on his back like England star David Beckham, who has a giant angel.
But the Prince said he feared Kate, 26, would hit the roof. Wills made the amazing admission while serving on HMS Iron Duke in the Caribbean earlier this month.
Wills would not be the first tattooed Royal. King Edward VII had a Cross of Jerusalem done in the Middle East in 1862.

Patricia, PW is an Anglican that was born to and follows the Church of England, in fact he will be head of the Church of his country and domains.
The tattoo is from the Bible’s old testament, just a note to everyone, and respecting everyone’s religious beleifs.
I couldn’t imagine Will with a tattoo.
Neither can I. It just doesn’t seem…well…William, if you know what I mean.
I wonder if he wasn’t just joking around a bit with his mates on the ship and this was taken a bit more seriously then he intended. Not that there would be anything wrong with it … I have a tattoo on my backside that reads “Property of Big Al” and I see nothing wrong with it. It’s discreet and the ladies at church can’t see it, so no harm done!

I’ve been wondering about Harry and Chelsy too. The last thing we saw of Chelsy were the Durban pics since then she’s been MIA. Harry has been seen last week in SA travelling with his regiment.

If william had a tatoo, it would be something completely normal. Although he will be king, he is just like any 26 year guy who likes getting wild at times.
Prince Frederick of Denmark has a tatoo on his leg. I have seen it in photos by don’t know what it is. I wonder if they are back from vacation yet. I am starting to believe that there will be no engagement announcement.

Hello everyone,
I think I repeat myself but if there is going to be an engagement and marriage it isn’t going to happen for 12 + months or even longer.
PW and KM are now in the middle phase of their relationship, very comfortable with one another and obviously very much in love.
The ‘grand pasion’ stage has long gone probably before the March/April 2007 breakup and they are now in that position many couples find themselves in.
Most couples are there mainly because of circumstance of finance or lack of it and are waiting until they can afford matrimony and children.
PW and KM are not there basically because of that but because he is a King in waiting and their circumstances are governed by PW’s need to assimilate the knowledge and wisdom to become a monarch.
This regal learning has and is being interrupted by his military commitment but he still has to learn the process of government and how to run a Royal Estate.
This learning process is foreign to him despite being born into it and a lot of that learning unfortunately may well have been neglected or interrupted by his father’s preoccupation after his marriage breakdown followed by Diana’s untimely death.
Without these unhappy events PW would probably have been instructed by PC in the art of dealings with government matters and estate duties but following the marriage breakup PW together with PH spent more time with their mother.
All this time now has to be made up when he eventually finishes playing soldiers and could be to the detriment of his relationship with KM.
He will not be able to give her the time and attention she deserves and consequently they may fall into that horrible abyss that many long term lovers fall into, a tragic and extended breakup when even love and affection can be diluted and even lost.
I hope it doesn’t happen like that but unless PW does something positive very quickly in regard to KM then their extended love affair may flounder.

You make good points. But if I were Kate Middleton William would have to make a move next year or find somebody else. After all she is the one who is hounded by the paparazzi & has her family dragged through the mud by some tabloids. As a royal girlfriend she has no protection, no rights to anything. William has his palaces, his lawyers, his pr representatives. He’ll always be fine. Even though Prince Edward didn’t marry Sophie right away she had an apartment in Buckingham Palace. So she had security and some kind of commitment from Edward. Camilla as well after she became Charles’s official companion had rooms in St James’s Palace and then later Clarence House. There’s no reason why William couldn’t do the same for Kate. Not only that there’s no reason he couldn’t do a long engagement. As long as Her Majesty allowed it. I get being understanding about William’s position, his duties, and his training. But at some point Kate needs to think about herself and her future.
I totallyy agree and I think people need to understand that they have come a long way and he will not abandon her. She is a very smart person and have handled this relationship very well, so she knows where she stands in his future. So far she has been in the background but now she’s about to take part in more events with him so she’s not going anywhere and William is making sure of that. The proof is in the pudding. Just like The Countess of Wessex and The Duchess of Cornwall, Catherine will by her Prince’s side. He’s following a great example and it’s really the best way.
B, I really want an engagement and I still hope for one, but I have doubts only because I think they should announce it already if they are going to marry. I say this because Pippa and James as well as Kate can’t continue to get rip up by the press! Nor would I think William would want them too. It will make it harder for the public to accept Kate and her family the longer this goes on. Not everyone is as logical as we bloggers here and they/public will believe alot of what is written. If William is planning on a future with Kate, I think CH/PR people need to do what they did for Camilla in trying to push good press out to the newspapers,etc. and they need to start this now!

She isn’t really being hounded by the press is she? We hardly see any photos of her now and before most of the photos we saw where when she was out of nightclubs or on her birthday. At the time of her 25th birthday a lot of the paps said that normally she would only have 1 or 2 paps following her.
For the last time: Royals do NOT I repeat do NOT have long engagements. Sorry for being so forceful but they never dok, it’s just one of those things, ask any royal commentator and they will say the same. Why do you think that when they talk about engagement plans they always say announcement near Christmas, marriage in the summer. That is because it is the way it is for the royals.

What ever is to happen must happen soon because the harm that is being done by the media to KM’s family.
They seem to have realised that they can not irritate KM as she doesn’t react, so they have made a play for her family knowing how supportive they are to her and knowing how much she loves and thinks of them.
Prince William must realise that all this aggravated comment against his lover’s family is his fault but why he does nothing to stop it by making his declaration is one of the biggest mysteries of this generation.
Surely he must know this is further affecting his general popularity as well as his reputation which over the past 18 months has suffered because of way he has conducted himself.
One would think he should know better or at least be better advised. Perhaps his new PR people will be better advisors than the people who have been responsible for his PR in the past.
Yes B we know the royals don’t have long engagements. Don’t worry Ked it will happen, just like you told me “be patient” Non of us like the nasty and very childish press reports but William will put them in their place. The press is only trying to get a reaction for William and the Palace and sometimes you have to be careful what you ask for.
First of all, I’ll say that I actually believe the tattoo story. The reason I believe it is that Wills does seem to have the same longing for adventures as any other 26 year old guy. He’s been riding motorcycles since he was 18, and he still rides, and according to his RPO’s (Royal Protection Officers) as recently as December 2007 he drives his motorcycle entirely too fast.
He learned how to parachute during his gap year, he also knows how to deep sea dive and how to mountain climb. He’s learned to fly a plane, he’s had a chance to momentarily helm a very fast nuclear sub, and he’s flown in the co-pilot’s seat to Afghanistan. Not only that, but he’s got a great seat on a horse, he’s a good polo player, he loves to ski, and he’s a certified army tank commander for the Scimitar tanks.
That sounds to me like the type of man that might want at least 1 tattoo somewhere on his body!
As for Wills and Kate getting further apart if they wait too long, I really doubt that. Looking at the photos of them from this year, they seem to have gotten closer than ever since they got back together.
For whatever reason, I think Wills likes seeing Kate out of the public eye, and all of the difficulties they have to go through to see each other, and the infrequent amount of time they’re able to see each other seems to be some sort of romantic tonic to Wills.
It seems as if the less he’s able to be with Kate, the more he wants to be with her. I’ll go out on a limb and state that I think Wills is probably either going through a second infatuation stage with Kate, or he’s finally decided that he’s deeply in love with her rather than just superficially in love.
I can’t really explain why I say that, it’s something that seems to be on his face when he looks at her. He just seems really at ease with her in all of the pics I’ve seen of them together this year. I realise that I could be wrong, and if so I’ll admit it, but I think I might be on the right track with this.
Mapleleaf, I think you hit the nail on the head.
My own little pet theory is that the breakup last year was a staged loyalty test, to see if Kate would break her vow of silence and sell out or become vindictive. We have all read the reports of how William felt when his mother went public, that he was embarrassed (Sarah Bradford and Tina Brown books.) That might have been the simple embarrassment of a teenage boy not wanting to read about his mum’s sex life — and who could blame him — or he might have felt it was a deeper betrayal of the Monarchy, his very livliehood if you will. Who knows. But what is a known fact is that William places a very high premium on loyalty from his friends and girlfriends, that is for certain.
Kate passed the loyalty test with flying colors, and I imagine that is a HUGE relief to him to know she cannot be bought for a few million pounds and a Sun exclusive. Knowing that, if I was a rich and handsome Prince, by far the most eligible bachelor in the world, why it would make me smile too.
Although I am frustrated with the fact that no engagement has been announced yet, I am equally frustrated with why it is ok for DM or other tabloids to publish personal photos when I thought they could only use authorised photo agencies. But maybe these rules only apply to Kate and not her family? I think the Pippa/James photos and if any type of retraction is made will show where Kate stands in the RF. William seems to be very close to Kate’s family as he includes them on trips, etc. so I would imagine he is not going to take to kindly to DM story about them. But then again they may do nothing. IMO it is very selfish to of William to prolong an engagement with Kate while her family get slung through the mud.

I wouldn’t say he is being selfish now. IMO he’s right to want to finish up his military career before announcing an engagement. And it’s not like William hasn’t given Kate any recognition at all. As Mapleleaf said she has been very prominent this year with the Garter, Boxing Ball, & the 2 royal weddings. Further William can’t very well allow the media, specifically tabs like the Daily Mail, to dictate his personal life. That said if he and Kate love each other & both want to take the next step then dragging it out for another year or so is not a good idea.
Although he also took her to the Boxing Ball (2006) and Sandhurst graduation (Dec, 2006) before the spring 2007 break up, I somehow feel this time something is different. The situation is much improved between them. On track it looks like for a summer 2009 wedding.

Alsgal, you are right as well, that relationship is different now and have taken on a more serious role. It’s no longer the “little Prince and his little Princess” It’s now William & Catherine and we can clearly see that. I’m not worried about an engagement because I know and you all know it’s coming.

I was stunned seeing those photos of them at the Boodles Ball. They looked like a real couple! The one where William has his hand on Catherine’s back is so nice but so surprising as well. William being comfortable with PDA??? Not just the Boxing Ball but on Wills birthday there were those pics of Kate giving him a little kiss and the two of them dancing. Eeeeeeeeee!!! You know what really interested me the most was seeing how Kate would interact with the family (Windsors + Spencers). From what we saw at the Garter & the Wings ceremony she looks very comfortable and at ease. That’s a great sign
Nikki, even my 8 year old pooch, our incontinent Weimaraner “Captain Spock” got excited when I showed him the pics of William and Kate at the Boodles Ball — fitting that my pup could even sense the animal attraction between those two. Pictures don’t lie, and the Spockman doesn’t either.
Animal attraction??? They looked like a normal couple, even my best friend puts his hand on my back, whilst in KM and PW’s case it was because they were dating, let’s not get too excited over the smallest amount of affection.
He shows her the smallest amount of PDA and I have never seen the same affection that Harry shows Chelsy.
I know that they love each other and I am 110% sure that they do and I know that William is more shy but please let’s not exagerrate over a few pictures which show him…OMG!…touching her!

Tattoos aren’t necessarily chavvy but I never wanted one because as a person gets older their skin is no longer as firm and wrinkles develop, so what was once a nice tattoo becomes a creased wrinked thing inked on a person’s skin.
Might suit William but I think he will be able to lose the Golden Boy image for good if he does.
The tattoo I used to have on my back is now on my bum, so I agree with you, B — plan wisely!
A tattoo on William would be “chavtastic” — something with the Prince of Wales feathers or even ERII would make it more tasteful, if that’s what he’s worried about.
