Prince Harry wants to return to Afghanistan

Prince Harry has requested another tour of duty in Afghanistan to fight Taliban insurgents.

The Prince, who is a Lieutenant in the Household Cavalry’s Blues and Royals, spent 10 weeks on the front line earlier this year before being flown home in February after his deployment was made public.

He was the first member of the Royal family to go into battle since the Duke of York served in the Falklands in 1982.

At the time The Prince said he would like to return to the front line but it was ruled out for security reasons.

A Blues and Royals source said: “Harry has made no secret of the fact he wants to be there when the regiment returns to the front line next year. With one mission under his belt, he has the skills and experience which will make him an extremely valuable member of the battle group.”

Clarence House said there were no plans to deploy the Prince but confirmed he was a committed soldier who was ready to do his duty if requested.

A spokesman said: “Prince Harry is committed to his career in the army and he remains ready to do whatever his required.”

The Prince and members of his regiment will resume training at Windsor’s Combermere Barracks next week before he begins a two week exercise on Salisbury Plain. (via Telegraph)

When in the past any country invades Afganistan, the war is never over until the invading country retreats. The Talibans never surrender, ask the Rusians.

Since BC (Before Christ) but I don’t want to enter the passionate world of politics – war material is always a positive entry of money to the big nations who manufacture – during war time. A small war here and there is always needed for these big nations.

They know that the Talibans or the Iraqui warriors will never never surrender, you can read it in their verses, bible, toran, etc. Its a question of their pride.

I know, they are terrorists and the waged war has to continue, if the UK/USA or any of their allies pull out, next thing we know is of another attempt or death deal done by them. They do have crazy leaders, Bush is not that mad !

    I agree with Me.
Afghanistan is a now narco state which supplies 90% of the world’s heroin. Until they can manage to build factories (one electrical plant has been under construction since 1975, as the Taleban don’t want to see it built) poor and uneducated farmers will continue to grow poppies, as there’s not much else in the way to sustain them. The brother of Karzai is one of the 15 warlords who controls the country, and the NATO forces know he is corrupt but they cannot do much against it.

A fantastic book, by Ahmed Rashid “Descent Into Chaos” details the failure thus far of the US attempt to control Afghanistan and Pakistan.

    Hello,

I’m not sure that PH should be allowed to serve in Afghanistan or Iraq.

There are too many “ifs, but, and maybes” about his service there and I would be very surprised if he were allowed to go into either theatre.

However, if they don’t let him go he may well decide that his time in the Army is over and resign his commission.

    Ah well, who’d be a Prince ?

I think Harry if unsatisfied with not returning to war, should find something in Africa where it seems his interest are, besides Chelsy of course. Perhaps he could be the royal representive for the Queen in Africa. There is probably a title for that, that I am not aware of. Unlike William who has no choice, Harry seems as though he will not be happy doing the normal “status quo” of a royal unless he finds something that he can combine duty and self fullfillment. I am a bad speller, so excuse me!

Me, interesting. I bet we will not see Kate until Roller Disco. I’m sure there will be photos of the event. What I don’t get though, is how Kate manages to not get photographed where ever it is that she is staying. She’s not under house arrest!

    She’s not in London either.

The Middleton neighbourhood is with the Middleton’s, not with the press, cool to live in the countryside.

    Hello,

As PW is back with his Regiment next week I think this last 7 days or so will have been spent together and I wouldn’t bet against their being at Balmoral.

If so it is almost certain that they will be travelling back to CH this weekend and may even have arrived as we chat.

The less said the better over the next few weeks as the crows will be out and about calling KM for anything and everything.

Be prepared and don’t get dragged in.

The press will do so until an announcement or the couple breaks up.

So much pressure, hopefully they both ignore it.

    Hello everyone,

    gracie,

No comments on that particular point.

I think Blues and Royals are based either at Chelsey or Windsor and I think PH is allready back but certain Companies will obviously move to a training area at Salisbury or Catterick if they are to move to active service over next few months.

I don’t think PW has reported back yet which may mean he is going directly on attachment possibly to Ministry of Defence, which was one of postings mentioned weeks ago.

If so he will be based at Whitehall which will enable him to walk to work each morning from CH

I believe we may hear something over the weekend.

Don’t look forward to many sightings over next two, three months as I think a ‘play down’ may be in action to combat recent speculation.

Ked: By saying that you think they will try to “combat recent speculation”, are you implying that they do not want the speculation as there is no engagment taking place soon or that there is but they do not want the fuss at the moment? I know you have said (and I agreed at the time) that the earliest they will get engaged is Christmas 2009, Feb 2010. Do you PERSONALLY still agree with that statement or disagree?

    Hello,

I do not know if/when an engagement will/may happen but I do not think there will be any engagement announcement for quite some time.

My main reason for these thoughts really relate to the official or semi official reports of what “PW will do next”.

Whenever there is intense speculation that there is to be an announcement a report appears that PW is committed to a certain course of action.

It obviously isn’t easy to estimate the length of these placements but normally they are for 3 to 6 months, or have been in the past.

If he is to do all that has been leaked ,then we are into 2009 and possibly 2010 depending how accurate or true these reports are.

Apart from their University days, when PW was a different person to the PW we now see, KM has been hanging about waiting for her day.

When/if that day comes she will require and deserve want his full attention. Tell me a girl who doesn’t and if she is not to feel neglected after her marriage as well as she has been in this period of time, then PW must have finished most of his constitutional commitments.

There is no way he can get engaged and married (a period of say 6-8 months) , be going through training or whatever in The Foreign Office or Ministry of Defence, and give his wife or fiancee any proper commitment and in all honesty if and when that day comes she deserves his full attention.

She will be in a strange environment despite the years spent at PW side, will be called Mar’m , have an office and staff to maintain and will need his love ,protection and above all his close proximity to help her through. The ’suits’ and mandarins will attempt to rule her and will require PW’s, and possibly other RF members, protection and guidance. He will have to be there for her.

Otherwise….. well we know what can happen and may already have happened in the past.

Prince Harry should grow up and come to the realization that as a royal prince, 3rd in line to the throne that the cost to protect him in a war zone is unwarranted. Sometimes you just can’t have what you want in life and then it is time for plan B. He should get out of the arm and start his royal duties.
