After four long days dirt-biking the Wild Coast for charity, princes Harry and William took the day off yesterday – and helped refurbish a Morgan’s Bay creche.

Roaring into the quiet seaside hamlet with more than 100 overseas riders on Tuesday afternoon, the princes both rolled up their sleeves and helped paint and build a swing. They also entertained the children at the impoverished Siyazaka creche.

Riding with undercover bodyguards, the two British royals arrived at the creche with the other Enduro Africa 2008 riders and were soon carrying heavy poles around and doing other tasks.

Urging another biker to put his back into the job, Prince Harry was overheard telling him to help carry two poles – “one in each hand” – instead of one. But, it was not all work and no play as the princes also bonded with children at the creche between chores.

Later, the princes and other bikers returned to the nearby township and entertained a large crowd with a football match against a local side.

    Hello,

PW and PH are certainly making their mark during this rally and it seems that they are really making use of Army training by taking the lead in all the reported tasks and events.

Their security officers are mentioned but it has been mooted that their total security costs will exceed the estimated total amounts expected to be raised for charity but really their presence alone should benifit all these good causes in the long run. Can any one confirm these details or is it yet more negative comment ?

PW and PH should be returning to UK this weekend and will attent the James Bond film next week then are they both rejoining their regiment or carrying out other royal duties?

Has anything been reported about future events?

  • lisa #2 - October 23, 2008 at 6:43 am

ked please state the source of your information regarding those security costs. This event has been very positive for the princes and I would hate for rumors to turn things negative.

According to the POW website,William has an event he is attending on 11/5 at St Paul’s and the Guidhall for the Lords Mayor’s Appeal.

I do not know about the security costs but I cannot imagine that the additional costs are all that much. I mean the personell would have been paid anyways – whether in Africa or in the UK so additional costs should only cover their flights and hotels maybe a bonus if they get one for goin abroad. I cannot imagine that this will add up to £300.000. I think this may be the total amount of security costs but as I said the main part – the salary would have been spend anyways.

Both Princes will attend the Bond premier October 29 and Harry will launch Khumbu Challenge 09, an adventure training expedition for wounded Service personnel to the base of Mount Everest November 4. The Prince will meet wounded Service personnel and Khumbu Challenge organisers, HM Naval Base Devonport, Plymouth.

I really think but I have no way of proving it, most likely daddy or PW/PH themselves covered the initial charity cost to participate for their “entourage” (bodyguards) which is L 1,500 per biker.

Other than the participation cost for charity, bodyguards are to follow inland, foreign, for pleasure or work, 24/7 the body they are protecting. This is covered in the yearly budget.

We are talking about the UK, not Haiti. Hello ?!

A very cute story about Harry meeting a cancer patient.
    http://www.thisiskent.co.uk/whitstable/date-Prince-Harry/article-420451-detail/article.html

“CANCER suffering ace charity fund-raiser Nicole Dryburgh can tick off another wish from her list – she’s had tea with Prince Harry.

The amazing teenager, who has raised nearly £50,000 for others despite being severely ill, spent 90 minutes with the prince.

He held Nicole’s hand during the visit – which over-ran by an hour – as she told her story of how she was hit by cancer of the spine at 11 and, after a brain haemorrhage, is now blind, deaf and paralysed.

“Meeting Prince Harry was amazing,” said Nicole, 19, of St Mary’s Grove, Seasalter, Whitstable.”

I hate to be sceptical about this but how does a blind and deaf person hold a conversation? Sign language doesn’t work without seeing, does anyone know other means for communication? I guess the author exaggerated when he discribed her condition otherwise I cannot explain how that meeting took place.

  • Me #6 - October 23, 2008 at 11:31 am

She got blind and deaf between the age of 11-13 years old, and is 19 years old this year. I know blind and deaf people who used to not be disabled, therefore may speak. Hand touching with the assistance if PH doesn’t know the morse code – receives the reply of what the NOW blind and deaf spoke.

Not mentioned in the article, but most likely.

  • Rman #8 - October 23, 2008 at 1:09 pm

That was very nice of Harry. I just like how down to earth the boys are.

  • alsgal #9 - October 23, 2008 at 2:12 pm

They are both very nice young men, and I was a little annoyed by some members of the press dismissing this as another “jolly.”

Raising money is raising money, and William and Harry are managing to do that very well indeed, along with bringing some much needed awareness to their causes.

  • Trixie #10 - October 23, 2008 at 3:22 pm

I agree alsgal. And they do not only participate in a joy ride, they also do hands-on charity work on the way painting schools, furnishing hospitals etc. But the papers have to hide that fact somewhere in their article in a small sentence and make their stories about the Biker Chicks or them playing football – that makes me so angry. I bet none of those journalists looking down on their efforts has ever as much as lifted a finger to help others but they are all quick to dismiss their efforts. Yet I am sure if they only did traditional royal patronages that wouldn’t be right either. Seriously what are a few bucks spend on security compared to the help those people in Africa get? Have we become so cynical that we care more for money than for other people?

  • alsgal #11 - October 23, 2008 at 5:17 pm

    I’m afraid so, Trixie. :(
Also, I heartily agree with your point about whether the journalists who criticise them have ever lifted a finger themselves — I’d sure like to know what these people do for the good of humanity before they walk around knocking every attempt W&H (and Kate, for that matter) make in order to help others.

Right now, it really seems as if they are damned if they do, and damned if they don’t.

It’s not fair at all, and unless these so-called “journalists” are closet republicans, it’s not the slightest bit helpful to anyone but the most ardent anti-monarchist given some of this nonsense they report.

    We are not amused!

Was Kate with William at Mahiki for harry’s going to Iraq party? They didn’t mention her being there but said Guy Pelly and some friends were there and William didn’t leave until around 3:30 am.

  • Trixie #14 - October 24, 2008 at 2:16 pm

The going to Iraq party was during their break-up in April 2007 so no Kate wasn’t there. Harry’s Iraq deployment was later cancelled due to security risks because of the press leaks. He was then send to Afghanistan in December 2007 and had to return early in March 2008 again because of press leaks.

  • maddie #15 - October 24, 2008 at 2:17 pm

Does anyone know if the pictures on WH of the going to iraq party are old? I think they are.

  • maddie #16 - October 24, 2008 at 2:18 pm

Thanks Trixie! I just glanced at todays date under the pic.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1080396/Crowning-glory-How-Queen-transformed-glam-granny-latest-royal-tour.html

At the grand old age of 82, it seems the Queen has decided you’re never too old for a style makeover.

After years of being criticised for her stuffy, staid image, she appeared on an official engagement in Slovakia today looking younger and cooler than ever.

And what’s more, she must have been delighted with her new look as she couldn’t stop smiling.
