Prince Harry in new Race Row

Prince HarryPrince Harry has been accused of racism again after reports that he told a comedian: “You don’t sound like a black chap.”

Stephen K Amos said the remark was made at a comedy show to celebrate Prince Charles’ 60th birthday.

Mr Amos, who has appeared on many television shows including Have I Got News For You, said he put comment down to a poor attempt at making banter.

He said Prince Harry, 24, congratulated him on his performance before saying: “You don’t sound like a black chap.”

“I wanted to say: How is I supposed to sound?” said the comedian.

The new row comes after Harry was accused of racism after he referred to a Sandhurst colleague as “our little Paki friend”.

He was also heavily criticised in 2005 after choosing to wear a Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party.

A former chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality says it shows how ill-educated members of the upper class can be. Buckingham Palace is refusing to comment. (via ITN)

You really think Harry is cool, Apryl? He’s always making stupid comments that many find offensive and he needs to learn to think before he speaks. I don’t think he’s cool when he wears a swastika, makes references to a fellow soldier as a “Paki” or “raghead” or this latest comment. I’m sure his grandmother doesn’t think right now that he’s being cool.

Touché, he does need to think before he speaks, but I don’t think he means anything by it.

He’s young, he says the first thing that comes to mind. It happens.

Harry thinks Stephen K Amos does not sound like a Black person but he should not say it. Harry does not sound like a Prince. Where is his posh accent? He should learn how to talk properly. And he should think twice before he opens his mouth!

People expect a royal family member to be more diplomatic and sensitive about race, gender and class issues, Britain is a melting pot.

Expectations are higher for members of the BRF, especially when it comes to such sensitive issues.

Harry doesn’t seem to realize what is expected of him politically and socially, I blame his handlers for not providing him with more insight, information, and knowledge.

The “he’s young” argument is getting old. Pun intended. Most 20 somethings have learned to think before they speak about some common decency things. If he hasn’t learned yet, why not? Why is nobody teaching him? Yes, this goes back to his family — who most definitely should know better or at least can afford advisers to tell them how to behave better.

Apryl..I too like Harry. He’s open, honest and wears his heart on his sleeve.

What I don’t understand is why has to come to light now? The comment was made last November. After Christmas the video came to light in what I feel are suspect circumstances. Why have the press chosen to inform us of the comment now and not in November when it happended? Why did the press not inform us of the comment at the same time as the video was made public?

PH…I also agree with you, we in England do expect our royals to be more of an example. I also question his handlers.

However, going on past history of the royals, it is common to make a ’sacrificial lamb’ of one in order to bolster the image of another.

That is no excuse for Harry as he alone must take responsibility for what he say’s and does. I also think he is entitled to the same protection as William is, but I don’t feel he’s getting it.

this is getting kind of ridiculous. everytime this man opens his mouth, he gets attacked for it. despite his princely status, he’s a normal guy he just happens to speak before he thinks. i feel more pity for him than anything. Harry, to do yourself good, i would probably seal my mouth with tape about now.

oh my god, leave the boy alone. Probably he didnt mean to sound racist. Sometimes we say things without the intention of hurting but some people tend to misunderstand the meaning of what we are trying to say. That happens to me, sometimes people misunderstand what I try to say, and I am pretty sure that it has happened to every human being and that is included all the people who post and judge on this website. Prince Harry is like any of us with virtues and defects. So leave the boy alone.

forgot to say, if Stephen K Amos thinks PH said something racist that really annoyed him, why didnt he report it from the beginning? why did he have to wait for a long time to report it? When something bothers you, you\’ll say it immediately right? you wont wait for a long time.
I agree with Hale, there is something behind all of this.
