Three Valleys ski chaletIt turns out that Prince William and Kate Middleton have spent the past week skiing in the French Alps. But the press, perhaps unhappy that they weren’t informed, are approaching the story from a negative angle. The Daily Mail reports;

Prince William has been accused of receiving ‘special treatment’ from the RAF after he was given permission to spend a week skiing in the French Alps. For the last six days he has been traversing the slopes of the famous Three Valleys with girlfriend Kate Middleton and staying in a luxury chalet. Meanwhile, every other trainee pilot on his course has been hard at work…

The newspaper quotes a Royal Aide;

“Prince William has just finished his elementary flying training and is waiting to progress to intermediate level so he was given permission to take a short break.

He will rejoin his squadron at the end of March.”

when was the interview with little Alice by the way?

  • Sojourner #2 - March 21, 2009 at 11:10 am

if the press missed it, who saw it? (tree falling in the middle of the forest, and all…)

  • Phoebe #3 - March 21, 2009 at 11:14 am

I don’t think the press missed it. I think someone deliberately leaked the wrong information to throw them off the scent.

  • Clover #4 - March 21, 2009 at 11:19 am

Again, the public are not happy with several things about this trip:

    1. There are questions about why all other pilot trainees are still training with PW being the only one on a ski holiday.

    2. Luxury during an international economic crisis.

  • Phoebe #5 - March 21, 2009 at 11:24 am

Are the public truly not happy, or is it the DM telling them what they should think?

  • Iscariot #6 - March 21, 2009 at 11:25 am

It’s fairly simple. The other pilots are still training because they did not take leave. This is how “taking leave” works…

  • Phoebe #7 - March 21, 2009 at 11:51 am

And my understanding of the article is that PW finished the first part of his training early, and had some time before the beginning of the second part. I don’t see a problem.

  • maddie #8 - March 21, 2009 at 12:48 pm

Maybe we should start calling Katie Nicholls LATEY KATEY she is always late on getting the real scoop on will and Kate.

  • avid traveler #9 - March 21, 2009 at 6:51 pm

William was doing a interview with the cancer patient from The Royal MarsdenHospital for children the 18th of March and today he is in the Royal Box at the Rugby match, that makes two days in between, so when did the ski trip happen? It can’t be true?

  • BRW #10 - March 21, 2009 at 7:26 pm

I think the 18th March was the date the interview was broadcast on TV – not necessarily when it was filmed. It was probably filmed weeks in advance.

  • avid traveler #11 - March 21, 2009 at 8:02 pm

It is on the Princes of Wales website as March 18th.

Prince William is interviewed by a young cancer patient as President of the Royal Marsden Hospital
    18th March 2009

Prince William has shown his support for plans to build a new hospital unit at the Royal Marsden for children and teenagers with cancer during an interview with a young cancer patient at Clarence House.

In the interview with Alice, who has been treated at the hospital of which he is President, Prince William speaks about his childhood dream of becoming a policeman, his charity work and how he got his “Harry Potter” scar.

Not silly if you are trying to become Queen.
She has received other freebies over the years, clothes, car deals.
Kate can not afford years of bad press and have a great image. The bulk of the UK press that public reads day to day going to work, etc is no longer with this young woman, or maybe it’s time for the Prince to step up and do something to help.

  • Rman #14 - March 21, 2009 at 8:32 pm

The tabs just like to mess with Kate and her family. Companies like Party Pieces will always sell things that has a princess theme. They are only making a big deal about it because Kate could will most likely become a princess. That is the dumbest artical I have ever read and I have read many. It’s just a silly tabloid artical and the Palace not will take that serious.

  • patricia #15 - March 21, 2009 at 8:37 pm

    Or unlikely.

  • maddie #16 - March 21, 2009 at 8:41 pm

It really is ridiculous. What will they think of next? Pretty sad that they have no true stories of W & K. It truly is one of the dumbest articles I hve read too Rman.

  • Hale #17 - March 21, 2009 at 8:43 pm

Rman, I totally agree with you. Any company that sells party paraphenalia for children is bound to have a princess theme. Everyone knows the Cinderella story.

I’m surprised not to see any pics or articles emerging about W & K latest holiday. It strikes me the paps are ticked off, and they are desperate for any story.

I happen to think the paps have had the wool pulled over there eyes regarding when the skiing trip was supposed to take place. It would not surprise me that their mood may become angry.

This whole thing may rebound on William and possibly Kate.

  • vogue #18 - March 21, 2009 at 8:45 pm

That is a very silly article. I would like someone to name a party supply company that does not sell princess stuff. That is the theme that most little girls use for their parties.

  • Rman #19 - March 21, 2009 at 8:54 pm

The paps really like being in the know and William & Kate have been acting a little funny this year so I don’t think they are all that happy with the couple. They are simply enjoying their private wintery months but spring is back and I think they know that more appearences is needed. Now I wonder when they will make a public appearence?

  • gracie #20 - March 21, 2009 at 8:55 pm

Clearly NOTW does not look at PP website enough as they have always had “princess” stuff. Alot of girls of certain age like to pretend they are princesses and play dress up. How is that marketing on her RF connections?

  • Rman #21 - March 21, 2009 at 8:56 pm

Gracie lol, these tabs are something else.

  • gracie #22 - March 21, 2009 at 9:04 pm

Hale, I agree with you that the paps are not happy they were not in on the vacation. I was surprised that even Duncan from The Sun even had a negative piece on PW trip when usually he is so positive.

  • Clover #23 - March 21, 2009 at 9:09 pm

    Rman,
I agree with you, the press/media are pissed that this couple have acted “funny” all year.

I think that KM and PW have taken it all underground and away from speculation and gawkers. What a successful year of hide and seek they have had!

  • patricia #24 - March 21, 2009 at 9:12 pm

Where are the photos from the mysterious trip?
    William probably never went anywhere.
Another fantasy of the wedding predictors.

What is sad is that William has to hide his on and off girlfriend, until he decides what he’s going to do with her, because her press is so rotten.

  • vogue #25 - March 21, 2009 at 9:22 pm

Do u want to know what is rotten Patricia? People like u who troll different website and trash Kate Middleton. Now that is rotten. As far as I can see there is nothing wrong with her press but there is a lot wrong with people like u.

  • BRW #26 - March 21, 2009 at 9:33 pm

    Hi patricia/avid traveler/michael dolen/Jane/Joanne/puaola,

Your overall tone is quite negative towards Kate Middleton. Perhaps there are other sites out there more suited to your commentary?

    For the detectives;
    http://www.britishroyalwedding.com/stats/

  • gracie #27 - March 21, 2009 at 10:21 pm

Avid Traveler, how does PW and KM manage to sneak off for six days w/no photos? The only sign of PW possibly has been on vacay is he is tan in recent pics at rugby game, but that could also be due to mowing the lawn. I hope your travels take you to fun and exciting places! I would love to get away.

  • ambiguously fat #28 - March 22, 2009 at 12:00 am

I think PW is an avid tanning spray painter.

  • waydownsouth #29 - March 22, 2009 at 12:31 am

i hope kate doesn’t take that attitude of not caring what the papers are saying, tabloid or not. Really she should be taking note, and doing something to improve her image apart from hiding out at her boyfriends behest.
I think the two of them need to take a grown up pill and get on with marriage or split. This isn’t doing the monarchy any favours. No more years are going to tell either of them if they are ready for each other. They should know now.

  • mapleleaf #30 - March 22, 2009 at 2:01 am

WDS, Why, exactly, should William and Kate either get on with marriage or split?

Why can’t they continue their relationship the way it is for just as long as like? What is the rush that they have to either get engaged or break up right this very second?

This is not just directed towards you WDS, I’m actually asking in general. What is the problem with people that they are so obsessed with forcing Prince William and Kate Middleton to either announce an engagement or announce a break up?

Like Jerry Seinfeld used to say in the old days:

    “Whats up with that?”

  • NYme #31 - March 22, 2009 at 2:03 am

    Hi everybody,

If you look the comments at news of the world, they are mainly (if not entirely) positives. No bashing, so the only ones who go on with snarky comments are the people on the other site….

  • bluefire #32 - March 22, 2009 at 2:52 am
  • waydownsouth #33 - March 22, 2009 at 8:40 am

Becasue this isn’t a regular couple MapleL this is about the Monarchy and the longer he keeps her in the wings the more damage to her and his reputation and ultimately the Monarchy.
    I think peoplle are concerned.
I think that the Queen is concerned, I think that the courtiers are concerned. The only one not concerned is William. We know Carole is concerned based on comments reported. I think Carole may be on to something we don’t know. That after 5 or 7 years you know someone enough to marry. And this they are out of the spotlight thing by not being married, in completely untrue, they are in the spotlight, constantly and for all the wrong things.

  • Lisa #34 - March 22, 2009 at 9:05 am

WDS, I do think William and Kate know how they feel, which is why, after so many years together, they remain together. It is a testament, in the pressure cooker they live in that they have been able to endure the spotlight and still stay together. They must have a very strong bond and a deep love for each other. Once this relationship is brought out in the open,I think it will turn into quite an amazing love story that will be talked about for years and years. Robin Nunn’s book is scheduled to be released in May. I am hoping for a little glimpse into the private world of Wills and Kate we have never seen.

  • Rman #35 - March 22, 2009 at 9:48 am

That’s right Lisa. These two must really love each other very much. I truly believe that there is an amazing love story between them too and I’m still amazed on how they keep things together despite feeling pressure from the media. The one thing that really helped previous royal couples to go down in flames is the pressure from the media. But these two just continue to keep going despite all of that. I truly believe that they wouldn’t waste each others time if there was no real love between them. The media will never gives us the true story so I look to their family and friends to spill some beans, somewhere down the line.

  • maddie #36 - March 22, 2009 at 10:01 am

BRW, That was very enlightening viewing the stats. It is pretty obvious. Thanks!!

    http://www.bigpictures.co.uk/lowres2/00000000134/big20090323set044_8361.bro

A friend just sent me this link. They were skiing in Courhevel, France and came back for William to be at the game last weekend. Looks like Pippa and James were there too and some others.

  • Margaret #38 - March 24, 2009 at 7:49 pm

Mapleleaf and Waydownsouth – I really think they don’t want to get married until she is ready to have a baby. Once she marries him, she gives up her freedom and they both become “public property” so to speak. I think they are just cherishing these last few months of relative freedom before moving to the next stage of their lives together in which they will have lots of Royal responsibilities.
