Royals upset with News Of The World

News Of The World has clashed with royal officials over it’s front page splash that claimed Prince William wanted to fight in Afghanistan. The Guardian reports

On the front page of Sunday’s first edition the News of the World claimed that the prince unwittingly spoke to one of its reporters in a nightclub last week and told him he wanted to serve in Afghanistan like his brother, Harry.

However, Clarence House immediately denied the story, which was replaced after the first edition with a follow-up on the paper’s previous exposé about the Labour MP Nigel Griffiths having sex in his parliamentary office.

The conversation as the News of the World reported did not take place. [Prince William] never discusses his or his brother’s private life with members of the public,” a spokesman said.

The story was quickly pulled but not before it had been followed up by at least 48 news outlets around the world, including the French news agency AFP and the Canberra Times.

When Steve first posted this story, I couldn’t understand why it wasn’t in the on line edition of the NOTW. It took Mapleleaf to explain to me that sometimes the hard copy is not always the same as the on line news.

I thought the Aussies got it wrong. It was an Australian new website which Steve posted.

Therefore, I should like to take this opportunity to offer my unadulterated apologies to all Antipodeans out there.

    Sorry Australia……Sorry Steve.

Guys I just found a very interesting artical on William & Harry and their future. I address so many things and It leaves me thinking that William wants to surprise everyone with his engagement to Kate because everybody’s focus right now is on his training. I truly and firmly believe that William & Kate will make that annoucement but it’s likely that next year will be their year. Patrick Barkham really try to give us a taste of who William & Harry is.

ask for marc burton at the front door, say you know him if you arrive late, so you can get in. Look like you know what you are doing.

Try Tini Guy Pelly’s new bar

Or Mahiki, which is pretty easy to get into.

Also VeneerParties is run by Hugo Taylor, who Euginie was linked to, check out their website and sign up they will give you information on Amika nights, they are a younger crowd though than PW’s gang.

Shivs, I have family in Canada & Australia. When they came here for a visit I took them to the following pubs which they enjoyed.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, in the Strand.
Historical pub, famous for the writers that used to drink there; Shakespeare, Charles Dickens & Samuel Johnson to name a few.

Blackfriars Pub. On the corner of Blackfriars station. Nice for the evening. Decor is Art Nouveau mosaic tiles.

The George in Borough High St. This is an old coaching inn, I believe its owned by the National Trust. Not far from Borough Market, which is the newer place to go as far as markets go.

If you want to lash out and go to a good restaraunt, try my favourite and that is ‘Rules’ in Maiden Lane near Covent Garden. You HAVE to book. It is the oldest restaraunt in London and serves mainly game, among other things. Is famous for good quality British Food. I recommend the Steak & Kidney Pie.

Shivs of the pubs I recommended to you, I would head for The George in Borough High St. Its nice for the lunch time, and the market is great for browsing. It reminds me of the English Market in Cork, only much bigger. There is also a real ale put in Borough Market itself called the Market Trader. Its a regenerated niche of London. Southwark Cathedral is there and there is also a replica of Sir Francis Drake ship the Golden Hind.

Its a lovely day out. Hope the weather holds for you. Seeing as that your coming from Dublin, don’t bring the rain with you!!!!!!!

Don’t mention the ‘R’ word!! The last time I was in London it poured!
It all sounds great, I’ll have to print it out! It will be a good decoy before I hit Mahiki (I’m a closet KM-fan and couldn’t admit it to my friend, she’d think I’m odd!) Pity KM has gone to ground again though..

waydownsouth, I figured out who Mr. Burton is. It will be hard not to laugh if I do ‘name-drop’!!!

It’s sad that James Hewitt like to keep that mess up and try to hurt Harry. Eveyody knows that Harry is Charles & Diana’s child.

Yes Hale Charles gave up smoking many years ago and he and Diana hated the idea of anyone else smoking.

Thanks for the article,Rman. William is somewhat unpredictable so who knows what he will come up with for his princess but I bet it will be a ring fit for a queen! I can’t wait to see it.

As far as Chelsy goes, I am happy to see her moving on if that is the case. I am sure she and Harry had a nice time together but based on the continuing flow of pictures of her on facebook that keep hitting the internet,I don’t think Chelsy is interested in making the kind of commitment that the wife of a royal prince will have to make. She is too free spirited,IMO.

I have seen many programs about Royal Jewels, but I always thought that Diana’s sapphire ring was apart of the Queens jewelry. I know that the RF uses Garrard but I thought it was to clean pieces or purchase new ones. Maybe I am confused though as I believe the sapphire stone itself might have be apart of the Queen’s jewels and maybe Garrard made the setting for her. I thought I read somewhere that the ring was not something she would have picked on her own, but do recall she said it was the biggest stone on the tray. Smart lady. I agree Rman hard to tell what PW will do.

Lisa, I agree with your statement about CD. She is young and just does not seem ready to comment to the demands of royal wife, no matter if she carries a torch for PH. It’s hard to see the forest through the trees. Maybe it’s the other way around. I wonder if she will come back to UK, perhaps A&O was just made for her benefit and it was never intended to be followed through. We all know she does not like England! On the other blog someone said she was with rugby player, but perhaps it’s cricket instead. This person even said CD would be engaged or married by Christmas. I’ll be waiting for that one.

    Return of the royal gush:

“Ever since Princess Diana’s disillusioning complaints, simpering about royal romance has been uphill work. So we must congratulate Claudia Joseph on her biographical study Kate: Kate Middleton — Princess in Waiting, as it is cautiously subtitled, doubtless to avoid any confusion with the cracker from Croydon. It’s full-on fawning, as it used to be. “Like a butterfly emerging from a chrysalis, the shy, retiring schoolgirl has transformed into a confident and glamorous young woman with poise to become a royal bride,” Joseph coos.

She assures us that “the marriage would” — she has, for now, to use the conditional — “breathe new life into the monarchy as the Queen enters the twilight of her reign, bringing new blood and a fresh perspective”. Why not? The mere prospect of it has already breathed new life into authorial curtseying.”

Rman and everyone, you know Alsgal is always thinking of fresh and exciting ways that PW could propose — if he has not done so already.

    Picture this:

Alsgal wonders how romantic it would be, and so very William and Kate, for PW to take KM out to Mahiki or Whiskey Misty for cocktails and a little dancing, and as soon as Kate has readied herself in the loo makeup wise, for PW to say, “Wait a minute, I’d like one more Treasure Chest. And bring two straws, please.”

And when that Treasure Chest comes out, what should be attached on the plastic mock lock but a beautiful diamond ring from Zales, the Diamond Superstore.

With that, PW would fall to his knees and ask a very happy, and even perhaps a wee bit tipsy Kate ;) ,

    “Will you marry me?”

In front of all their friends and Pelly.

Alsgal thinks that would be one very fitting and romantic proposal for the love story that is William and Kate.

    Alsgal,
the image is so clear, and so true, in my mind, I am certain it has already happened, but the world just doesn’t know it… yet!

It would certainly be an improvement from what I remember reading about how PW mother received her ring.

Mind you, I read this a long time ago (at some point in the months after her death) so the details could be fuzzy…

The story had Diana describing a visit to a jewelry store, where someone brought a whole tray (basket?) of rings for her to choose. (The image and the idea seemed to a little on the cold side to me, but what do I know about RF traditions?) :-?

In any case, PD was quoted as saying she looked at the tray, and saw this enormous blue sapphire, and chose it. It went on to say that HRH eye’s grew wide when she saw it.

How likely is it that this story is true?

Rman…you are amazing. The link was another one of your treasure finds. Have just watched it. Everyone looked so young. Judy Wade, Ingrid Seward, even the Queen.

Intresting to hear Anthony Holdens comments. I remember reading his book about PCharles many years ago, and whom he was a fan of. When PC married Diana he became a friend of hers and clearly sided with her.

He was such a strong supporter of Diana. His comment about not believing Diana co-operated with Mortimer on his book, at that Diana felt betrayed by Mortimer, sent shivers down my spine.

Thank you for drawing our attention to it.

Alsgal, that would be very interesting, I’m sure he will try to think up something fun, if he hasn’t done it already.

You are welome Hale, what makes me so sad though is that they all looked to Diana’s future with hope and wonder. It’s sad that it all came to an end like that. I have to admit that Judy Wade is so frank about things and she really made it known that she and the public wasn’t ready to see Diana with a new man in her life. I think that is what she needed though, and I think she was looking in all the wrong places. I really wish things would have turned out so different but I guess God had his own plan.
