Kate and Diana center of attention at new Art Show

Sarah Gwyer’s debut exhibition, Masquerade, which sets out to explore the allure of the modern-day icon, is set to cause a few jaws to drop as the centrepiece consists of a triptych light box portraying Diana and Princes William and Harry, Kate Moss and Kate Middleton with halos.
Designed to represent the concept of past, present and future, Gwyer insists that these characters are “the saints of the future”, receiving as much adoration as any religious figure.
Opening at the SaLon gallery in Notting Hill next Friday, the exhibition will also feature sculptures of Amy Winehouse and Peaches Geldof and twenty portraits made out of beads… (via The Evening Standard)

Hi Guys, Im not sure this triptch linking Kate to Diana will help her cause in this short term especially as it will also link her with Kate Moss with obvious connotations but in years to come will certainly link her with William if their love affair flounders. It will also be a huge embarrassment to William and whoever becomes his bride if he deserts Kate.Of course it also depends upon sarah gwyer’s success and her place in the art world in time. The obvious would be for William to buy it and lock it away aginst eventualities. Perhaps she is hoping for a bounce off if they do get married but it is sure to get lots of space I would think.

Wow!! Catherine more popular cause her face appear in art Gallery too!!
are she’s get money for that art from that Gallery??

Good morning guys. Charles and Camilla are attending Church in Aberdeenshire on Easter so they are in Scotland(Balmoral). I would imagine this is where William and Kate are spending Easter unless they are in Buckleberry with the Middletons.

Perhaps the work is not shown to its best advantage. However, it seems utterly gimmicky to me. It is possible that religious leaders might feel compelled to comment, and give it a little more play. In the end, it will probably have its 15 minutes (is suspect even less) and be gone from most people’s memory.

Lisa, it all depends on when Jecca Craig is getting married. Easter I would imagine is a good time to get away.
As for Sarah Gwyer’s artwork, I’m sure it’s done its job, which is the glean some publicity.

I suppose “art” is what one makes it. LOL!
April 10th, 2009 10:48
I look at Lewa Downs web page and they are closed the whole month of April-May. For those not in the know that’s Jecca Craig’s family home and reserve in Kenya. They let out various places on their vast amounts of the property they own at Lewa to tourists. So I would bet maybe she’s getting married sometime in April as I think the rainy season comes soon after.
April 10th, 2009 10:54
Okay that is the most interesting piece of art I have ever seen, I have seen many. I get the whole thing with Diana, William & Harry and Kate but why Kate Moss?
April 10th, 2009 12:09
Maybe they all are the artist’s favorite English people or English Icon?
April 10th, 2009 12:24
gracie,I would not expect any pictures or information from Jecca Craig’s wedding. The family’s property is massive and private so it will be quite easy for people to come and go and not be photographed. Like her brothers wedding,if William was actually there,we could never actually confirm it.

I drove through upper Bucklebury late this afternoon. The weather wasnt good, bad what a lovely place for anyone to grow up in. So green and lush with lots of rolling hills. aaahhhh.
April 10th, 2009 14:08
I think it’s stupid. People think too much about celebrities.
April 10th, 2009 16:19
I think Will’s and Harry’s wish at church mass regarding Diana will never be fulfilled: “Let it end here. Let her rest in peace”.
It is never going to happen, poor guys.
April 10th, 2009 16:25
The paps, “artists” – everybody still tries to make money with Diana. The BRF must hate it. And the last thing Wills wants to see is that his Kate has the same life as his mother. And Kate will not like to see that everywhere she appears, people will mention Diana.
Wills probably tries to buy and destroy it.
April 10th, 2009 16:29
This is beyond words ridiculous.
Kate Middleton does not belong there.
And may I say, nor does Kate Moss.
As long as Diana and the boys are there, those two Kates do not have a place there.
What a ridiculous this all is.
Really, what a laugh.
April 10th, 2009 17:35
I would like to see a painting of Charles’s family. Like in the painting it would include Charles & Diana with the boys and Charles & Camilla. That would truly represent the past, present and future.
April 10th, 2009 18:30
Rman
I agree with you on Charles family. That would trully represent the past, present, and future. I utterly think that the representation of the Kate’s (Moss and Middleton) to princess Diana is a disgrace. What have they done for the good of man kind?
April 10th, 2009 18:45
Here the artist explains the art she created.

I understand why she added Kate to the Masquerade, it’s a very big possibility that she will help represent the future of the monarchy. I just think Kate Moss could have been left out of it. I do respect the artists vision, it’s very interesting.
April 10th, 2009 18:58
I think you’re misinterpreting what she’s done. She’s not commenting on Diana or either of the two Kate’s as people, but as representations of something. I don’t think this piece is meant to flatter any of them.
April 10th, 2009 20:13
I agree, the triptych is not meant as flattery AT ALL. Gwyer is poking fun by claiming that interest in this figures approaches the level of “worship.” I find her “critique” very superficial. Notice there are no male icons in this triptych, or in any mentioned in the article… I wonder if Gwyer addresses this gender difference in the treatment of celebrity?
April 10th, 2009 20:20
That’s just what I got of it. It’s odd and interesting at the sametime.
April 11th, 2009 06:46
The likenesses really are quite good. The artist did a good job technically, I think. Provocative. I like it.
April 11th, 2009 09:56
Post #11 I envy you. And from what I’ve seen of the Middletons’ property it is absolutely gorgeous, an almost idyllic setting. I’m sure William is quite happy there when he visits. A loving family, a lovely girlfriend, just nice times there I hope they all have together. Judging by him going skiing with Kate’s family rather than his usual Klosters jaunt, I suspect I’m not far off of the mark.
Anyway, looks like a beautiful area.
April 11th, 2009 17:28
Hmm. As a professional art historian, I have to say that this isn’t a particularly high-quality work of art, but as someone who takes a jaundiced view of the cult of celebrity, I recognize with some pleasure the satirical aspects — while also pointing out that they’re not entirely original. This sort of thing has been done with other celebrities, notably Elvis Presley, as I recall. My husband likes to refer to Diana as “Saint Squidgy” (we are not Diana fans in my household), and since he’s a trained art historian, too, he’ll enjoy this.
April 11th, 2009 19:53
Now they are saying that Kate wants to be a mother.

April 11th, 2009 20:35
If that is true…it’s not really a big deal. I know a couple of women that had their children in their late 30s. Their kids turned out to be very healthy and intelligent.
April 11th, 2009 20:42
DV,
I have known dozens of women who had healthy, beautiful babies in thier late 30’s and early 40’s even and most has normal pregnancies.
If Kate and William want to wait then they should!
April 12th, 2009 02:06
Hi Guys, I think that we are missing a problem with this subject. Yes Kate wants her babies and at 27 with the possibility of at least a few more years waiting it is not just that she will be in middle to late thirties when giving birth to one,two and possibly three children. It has been said here before that Kate will have spent her entire twenties and early thirties waiting, then her late thirties giving birth to her family and all her forties and early 50’s ensuring her family are cared for and then supporting them through their earlier years and more importantly through their teens .She will then be 50 or nearly 50 before she will have finished caring for her family. Yes there will be nannies, servants and other support but for herself she must see her time passing. So I believe that her life is not going to be a bowl of cherries but a stressful geowing old. And all this time she may just have the thoughts that as she is caring for her family, on past evidence, William’s wandering eyes may just be looking elsewhere. Wives know about 45+ wandering husbands and in William’s case that worry may be magnified by his family history and the evidence of his early adventures. Things may just be looking a little black in her eyes and she may just be wondering if it is all worth while.Spare athought for her maternal longings and try to understand her thoughts and worries.
April 12th, 2009 14:26
If they know for sure that they are meant to be, then there is no need to regret waiting.
Having kids and caring for them is not the end of the world. You can still party with your girlfriends and etc. It’s the beginning of a new and more exiting life.
If he were the cheating type…he would have done it already…he would not have to wait for marriage to cheat.
It’s not necessarily true that he would follow the same marriage lifestyle as his father’s.
