£590 Royal Swans: William & Catherine

Royal Swans

One company is so sure of Wills and Kate’s future together that they have commissioned a set of ceramic swans as a celebration of the couple’s enduring love.

Named William and Catherine the swans, made for china retailers Goviers by Royal Crown Derby, are intended to be used as paperweights.

And while we’re sure the couple couldn’t fail to be delighted with this romantic tribute even they might raise an eyebrow at Goviers’ planning. “Not only have we already developed a full Royal Wedding Collection but a series of cygnets to accompany the Royal Swans is proposed to mark the arrival of any little princes or princesses”…  (via Daily Express)

Lisa lol. I think the company did a excellent job on the swans, I think is a great tribute to a couple that are pros at beating the odds. I often think it would be great if someone presented the couple with a painting or something in tribute to them.

Better than some blurry picture of Ms. Middleton stuck on a tea towel. The merchandise is going to happen, let it be tasteful at least.

The swan merchandise is very premature. I wish that the companies would wait until any announcement is made before they start churning out stuff like this.

The swans do seem lovely… So, when six months go by, and no wedding is announced yet again, I will be able to pick them up as a Xmas present for Great-Aunt Hilda at fire sale prices. Since the ol’ dear doesn’t get out much, she will be none the wiser, but certainly impressed with my taste ;-) & extravagance!

I think the swans is more of a tribute to an inspirational couple so it may not just be for an announcement but just a tribute to them. This couple deserve all the tributes they can get. The may present the swans to the couple.

    Very unfortunate.

As I said some weeks ago, it’s unlikely that an engagement announcement will occur before next February, at the earliest. If various companies are anticipating such an announcement, well and good; but their executives and marketing staffers should keep it to themselves. Otherwise, they risk looking like the tackiest of opportunists.

Well, we all know a similar story appeared around this time last year and nothing came of it. This one will be easy to prove. If they attend those games,as HM and PP did last year, they will be photographed. It is possible that the palace could be planning to allow William and Kate to be photographed with the Queen and prince Philip ahead of an announcement and this is a logical and natural setting. Or it could be that this paper simply chose to elaborate on the original story.

Ever wonder why papers write things they know are not true? I don’t get it.

If the papers are going to make up a date, at least make it a plausible date. There is NO WAY that Prince William will allow his engagement to be announced on the anniversary of his mother’s death. Geez, do they have no one at that paper with an ounce of a historical sense?

Plus, balloons? Oh really??? At the announcement of a royal engagment? This is not a children’s birthday party.

As for the need for Ms. Middleton to improve her resume, not if the engagement is announced.

Like I said, at least make it a plausible lie.

It would be nice to have the brothers tour the Commonwealth but I would like to see a royal couple do the tour. It’s been so long since we’ve seen that, I think it’s time to bring that magic back into the royal family. A future king & queen could help restore some faith in the Monarchy’s future.

    Morning,

Hale that was one interesting artical. I wonder did the past King’s & Queen’s knew that the Monarchy would be questioned this way in the future?

Things are so different now, back in the day if you mentioned that one of the members of the royal family was coming to your country, people would go nuts by getting the place ready for a visit. Now it seems like that magic is gone. This is why I hope William & Harry can at least help to restore some of that magic back into the Monarchy. I know as the years roll on, people will not see the point in the Monarchy anymore and changes may happen but if a little of magic could be restored, then I think things will be okay for awhile. It really is up to the young royals to make this happen. The Queen & Prince Philip did a excellent job for so many years and they was really trying to pass the torch to Charles & Diana but we all know that didn’t work out. The other senior royals are currently doing a good job in their roles but it don’t seem to be enough. This is why I believe William, Catherine and Harry could take the Commonwealth by storm and at least try to bridge some gaps and try to reassure the Commonwealth that things will be okay after the Queen reign ends. Now I know that it may seem strange for an American to be this concerned but I really do think all of this is down to the young royals. What you guys think?

Here RK’s little artical on the announcement.

The news that Kate Middleton will have a date with the Queen during a stay at Balmoral with Prince William has inevitably renewed speculation that their long-awaited engagement is imminent.

According to gossips, an announcement could be made as soon as next month – on August 31, the 12th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death. William dreads the date, which he is said to have dubbed ‘doom and gloom day’.
Says a courtier: ‘If they do choose August 31, it would mean the date could be remembered for something positive and not just for something sad. Of course, he hasn’t told us yet.’

I don’t know why they think William would make the announcement on that day. If it does come in August, it would be on a different day but not the 31st.

Maddie, it’s sad that people are attacking her looks. IMO, she doesn’t look old (or worse on video). No matter what she does, some of the hardcore anti-Kate people will find something to criticize her about.

Rman, I agree. They are probably secretly glad they got the chance to hear her speak.

Who is the woman standing next to Kate during the interview?

Kate has a nice voice. It’s your stereotype public school voice – posh, clipped and well pronounced.

    Soapstar and Phoebe,

Have you ever considered the fact that Kate just doesn’t resonate with some people?

I really don’t think it is a big deal that everyone is not as crazy about Kate as you guys are. Not everyone loved Diana as much as I did and that didn’t bother me one bit.

I really dislike the whole pre-Kate/anti-Kate thing. Who really cares who likes Kate.

Apparently, Prince William likes Kate and that is really all that matters.

Kate does seem like the girl next door. Just very natural and normal.

Her fashion can be hit or miss though. I usually don’t like her dressy style, but I love her casual style. While it’s the opposite for Chelsy-dislike her casual/love her dressy.

    Soapstar,
I did not say I was a fan or not a fan. To be honest, I really don’t know that much about Kate Middleton. I heard her voice for the very first time today. So the point is maybe we are not over the top in love with Kate for good reasons like we do not know much about her.

I really don’t know what you are talking about when you say “the people who criticize her” it really sounds extreme to care so much about these nameless faceless people who do not like the people you like.

    That was my point.

But isn’t that what you’re doing? Caring how (me) some nameless faceless person feels? Why do you care so much?

As far as being in love with Kate, I’m not, nor do I expect anyone else to be. Like you said we don’t really know any of these people.

I don’t care if someone doesn’t like Kate. You can like who you like. But, I do have a problem with someone calling her (or anyone else) a w****. I’m on a message board, so if someone make a post I disagree with, I’m going to respond. Simple as that.

Clover, I respect your opinions. The problem I have with some posters is their use of language. C***** shots, for example. The ones who call Kate a matress, the ones who claim W is using Kate for…. The endless job debate. Kate works for her parents. End of.

    That sort of thing.

Well it’s very true that not everyone is going to like Kate Clover. She is not a perfect human being but the hate remarks very often get out of hand. They really try to reach down her throat, rip out her pancreas and slap her in the face with it. But you are right, the only thing that matters is that William likes her and loves her. The proof is in the pudding when it comes down to that.

JJ I do believe that was an aide that was by her side to make sure the whole thing went smoothly and no personal questions was asked. The more her voice is heard the better. If she speak out on a particular charity that she want to help, then it will prove that she is just not the pretty girlfriend of a future king but she has a voice of her own and a mind of her own. Of course she don’t have to prove anything to us at this time but it would do her a world of good if she was heard in a positive way. I hope they will let her do this now. She was very natural infront of the camera.

    Soapstar,
I feel that a lot of space is taken talking about these anti-Kate people so that is what I am doing responding to all the posts about it.

    Hale and Rman,
What you two do not realize is that I really am not familiar with the posts about matresses and such you all are talking about. I think that is the problem.

I am out of the loop about these things. So I think if you are reading things that are that sexually explicit about Kate, then yes I do understand why you guys are so angry. But please realize that I do not have access to anything like that. I am reacting to what I read at BRW.

    Soapstar,
This is directed at you too. I don’t know where that stuff is written nor am I that familiar with anything that hateful being written about Kate. So directing anger at me is really not productive.

I don’t believe the person with Kate was any PR person or anything like that. She could have been a friend, she could be someone Kate works along side with.

Right. The funny thing is several years ago I watched a documentary on Prince Philip and I was kind of shocked to hear that PM Churchill didn’t like Philip much and the late King wasn’t too crazy about him either. The Queen Mother use to give him hell over the years but no matter what, the Queen stuck by her husband. Of course William is not dumb nor blind, he knows that some people on these royal sites is not all that crazy about his girlfriend. It’s all due to different reasons but he knows her better than any of us and stick by her no matter what. So yeah that’s all that matters, is love for her.

I tried my best to imagine what her voice sound like but know that I know, I can finally match up her voice to the photos.

I did not know that Philip was up against to much opposition within the royal family. Interesting. The Queen will have the final word, as Philip will be by her side until death do they part.

Prince William only has to look to his father and his grandmother, the current Queen and the future King of England to see how being in love with someone who may not be propular with the public does not rule out marriage and or spending one’s life with the one your heart desires.

I am almost certain that for Prince William it is a non-issue what people think about Kate on those other royal message boards.

Wow! Great to finally hear her speak. I’m surprised at how unexciting it was though. I always imagined I’d first hear her speak while being interviewed with William at their engagement announcement..

I’m curious why she chose to speak ‘on the record’ now after avoiding it for so long?? Is it because she is more secure in her ‘royal’ status or is she using her ‘celebrity’ to go down other avenues?Hmm, more questions than answers as usual!

She certainly didn’t look as polished as usual so it must have been unplanned…She certainly was not prepared.( I’m a few months older than KM myself and have recently invested in rejuvenation treatments and glycolic peels, I think your skin can change in your late 20’s, not as youthful!) She still is gorgeous and has a lovely gentle voice seems very bright and intelligent.

It is odd that she chose to speak at the conference. I do wonder what Ked would have to say…. Probably nothing positive. Well she has been very silent all these years so I think she was given an okay before she went on camera. The lady next to her seem to be watching every word she was saying so that might have been an aide to make sure everything was short and sweet. I think it’s been very hard for her over the years to not have a voice when you are talked about so much. Even Sophie said something to the press when she was at work one time. Being not able to speak would probably make you feel like you are in a closed bottle with no air holes. So when Sophie gave her engagement interview, she had plenty to say and said it very well. I have long ago expressed that after all this time, Kate needs her voice to be heard.

Yeah Clover Philip had to deal with alot especially when he first married the then Princess Elizabeth. This is one of the reasons why he knew first hand of what Diana went threw and sympathized with her. Although we get very upset about what people say about Kate, her situtation is nothing compared to what he had to go through.

Hello! Soapstar, why do you think that people who are indifferent to Kate Middleton or a part of this crowd can be anti-Kate, haters, or whatever like that types of person? Well, perhaps, I’m an optimist but I am convinced that most of people close to the royal families or those who just enjoy watching those families are quite normal and adequate. As for calling Miss Middleton inappropriate names and making nasty comments about herself, her family, or the social circle she chooses, may I say that I find it wrong and childish actually. I myself think (I don’t know Kate Middleton personally though) that she is a nice young lady. But I am still quite indifferent towards her – she is a private citizen. Until any announcement is made I will stay for watching this couple, and sorry but I won’t say «Oh, her voice is so beautiful, and she is a perfection». And believe me I’m not a hater, simply because it’s just a destructive emotion that shouldn’t take place in our world. Clover, agree with you. Rman, I admire your loyalty and always optimistic view. Maddie, girl next door thing depends on point of view, but I respect your opinion.

I wasn’t saying that you have to like Kate or else you’re anti-Kate. I think people can be indifferent or even dislike Kate without being anti-Kate. In my posts I was only referring to those that call her w****, the mattress, and claim William is using her. Not everyone will like Kate, and I think one can dislike Kate without going to the extreme. Thankfully I haven’t seen any of the extreme posts on this site. I hope that makes sense.

    You know what?

I expected Kate’s voice would be nicely mellifluous); it was. Given the context, I assumed Kate’s words would be reasonably bland yet complimentary; they were. I even thought the venue a good move; patronizing a cutting edge event, related to her interests is quite royal of her. ;-)
Finally, about KM’s looks: she looks like a lot of other 20 somethings. All of you over thirties — while still in your twenties, did you not make that hideous makeup mistake of following that hideous make up trend?

    Too much/ too dark eyeliner
    Too much/ too light foundation
    =
What are you trying to hide, eg. older woman trying to look young or what I call “The Horrible Opposite Effect Illusion!”

My guess is that Ms. Middleton spoke at the event because it was a way to demonstrate that she is actually working — or, at least, acquiring knowledge relevant to her work for her family’s company. She surely would not have chosen to speak while out shopping or engaging in something purely recreational. I therefore imagine that Clarence House had no problem with her saying a few words. Given the circumstances and the nature of the video, she was not being interviewed by a tabloid reporter but rather by someone charged with promoting this professional seminar.
