Rman,
sweet story, and gosh, how did you find it?!

Has anyone given thought to the Daily Mail in all of this? In England we have a saying. The men who rule the establishment read the Times and the Telegraph, and the wives of the men who rule the establishment read the Daily Mail.
Of all the newspapers in my country, the DM used to be the one with the highest female readership. Of course most newspapers are online now, and I would not know how that has affected the DM in terms of its female readership. But it is important. What you have to remember is that the majority who come out and cheer any of the royals are by far ineveitably female. Not all, but most.
Since going online, if the DM’s bulk readership is still female then the royal PR machine should launch a major charm offensive on the DM. Because it is they and not the ‘SUN’ or the ‘Mirror’ which will have the most effect in getting the public to accept Kate. That is if William marries Kate.

Hale,
It is what you are saying that makes me think the wedding of off the table.
July 29th, 2009 17:16
Correction,
…the wedding is off of the table.
July 29th, 2009 17:25
Hale,
. Since GG became notorioius, DM has presented Carol as a strong willed but well intention and even admirable mother. Kate has been portrayed as an innocent victim. They even did a piece building up Dad and his family as particularly moral and upstanding!! Digs about James and Pippa are fairly tame, and always countered with positive views.
IMO, the PR guys for PW are already on the job, so to speak. The DM most recent coverage has been generally supportive, except for Hatey-Katey, who has her own issues
But I would like to hear your “reading”
July 29th, 2009 17:36
Hi, I kept an eye on the DM (KN) latest story, when it remains in homepage it’s because it has “hits” – traffic. Said document was in homepage from DM Sunday midnight and lasted only 8-10 hours till Sunday lunchtime – London time, was then transferred to the link “Female” till Monday, and now to be able to read it, you need to look for the file, because if you browse every link you will not find anything related to GG or Kate Middleton from KN, English, Kay, nada. A search button is required.

yes we all know that kate and wills have many anti and pro these all years

Hale a great deal of people do accept Kate but I think they want to know her more. The tabloid articals very often play with peoples minds on describing Kate, I think everybody wants to see the real thing.
I don’t think the royal team have to go through the DM to get people to like her more but they have to get Kate out there and get her to interact with the public. Reading about a person is one thing but to actually get a chance to meet them and see who they really are is another.
Everynow and then I come across a little artical on someone who have met Kate in person and they often comment on how nice she is and how she is more slimmer in person. Just the other day I came across a comment in the Telegraph on a person who have met her. Here is what he had to say:
“I have had the chance to speak with Kate Middleton and although the conversation was brief, she struck me as pleasant, intelligent and naturally friendly and helpful. She’s also taller and slimmer than she appears in the press photos.
A girlfriend and I saw Kate at a local pub near to where she/ we live. The girlfriend asked her politely what the queue outside a white van that had parked up outside the pub was for. She walked over to our table and explained it was a van selling fish from Brixham and that he called once a week.
We were both surprised and delighted that she was so pleasant, open and relaxed.
Not sure what my opinion is worth, but I have at least met her, unlike most of the posters here and the overall impression of her was extremely favourable.”

The way the DM describe’s Kate would make you think that she is a very dull person with no life of her own. Meeting the real person would be so much better.
July 29th, 2009 17:58
Sojourner, the reason for my post is I was curious to hear what others thought of that. I they had an opinion on the PR thing.
Of course, as I said I don’t know if since going on line the dominant readership of the DM is still female.
But it strikes me, for any prospective royal bride the ones to launch a PR campaign on are all the papers and mags whose readership is mostly female.
I know me came out to cheer Diana, but her biggest fan base were women.
July 29th, 2009 18:48
Hale I find the whole female readership thing funny because many of the female readers of those papers and magazines are jealous of Kate and dislike the fact that William only have eyes for her. This is just my opinion but that’s what I sense when I read some of their comments. Jealousy is very evident in their thoughts.
July 29th, 2009 18:55
Rman@10, thank you, I hadn’t read that.
July 29th, 2009 19:12
You are welcome Me, I really do like hearing from the people who have actually met her because they often describe the Kate that we really don’t hear about in the tabs.
I sometimes think the personality of the real person behind the images, gets lost among the tabloid stories.

Update..Robin Nunn’s book is to be released on 9/1. I received an email today(so did others apparently) that my order would arrive on or about 9/08/09. Gosh wouldn’t it be something if this rumor about a 8/31 announcement was true? It’s pretty far fetched,IMO but I recall reading a response from the publisher of this book stating that it was intended to go along with the announcement…are they hedging bets or do they know something we don’t?
With or without the engagement,I still hope they release this book.
July 29th, 2009 23:29
Regarding the Robin Nunn book now set for 9/1 release…
“the book has always been intended as a celebratory commemoration of Kate and William’s relationship and as such was planned to co-incide with the announcement of their engagement.” They’ve decided that the book will therefore be more appropriate for publication after the big announcement has been made, which explains the delay from the original stated publishing dates on bookseller websites.

Thanks for letting us know Lisa. I just got my email too, infact I hadn’t checked it until you just said something. Thanks again.

Hi Everybody,
I made some research on the web. Sorry the result is in french.
Summary in english (just the first sentences and I let the french version for those of you who understand french)
The sun : in 2004 sold 3 500 000 copies / day for 8 500 000 readers (since 2009 and 3 784 852 from another source), the sun is the newspaper the most sold in the whole world.
The daily mail is the oldest tabloid.Since 2005, the newspaper sold 2 000 000 copies / day (and exactly 2 252 271 since 2009 – from another source). it is on the second place in number of selling just after the sun, but it arrived at the 20e place in the whole world so after the sun which is first.

Interesting stats, NYme. Thank you for providing them. It has to be Page Three that makes it sell so well and a few of its seamier stories.
I don’t think Kate needs any PR at all.She hasn’t put a foot wrong and isn’t likely to do so.
Wow Rman, Kate sounds just lovely. Good of you to share.
