Two can play at that game, Harry – Daily Mail
This week, as Prince Harry, 25, starts the second phase of his helicopter training in Middle Wallop, Hampshire, he will find himself living closer to London than he has in over a year… it may still not be close enough for him to keep an eye on his lively on-off girlfriend Chelsy Davy, 24…

Prince William to represent the Queen on tour of Australia and NZ – Telegraph
Prince William will take another important step forward in his apprenticeship as a future King when he represents the Queen for the first time on an overseas tour. The Prince will take the place of the Queen on a three-day trip to New Zealand in January. He will then fly to Australia for two days…

Majority of Canadians want William to become next King – The Star
A new poll suggests the majority of Canadians would prefer to see Prince William become King, not his father. Forty-one per cent said they would rather see Prince Charles pass off the throne to William rather than succeed Queen Elizabeth himself, while 31 per cent believed Charles should be King…

Royals face the bottom line – Herald Sun
Being a young royal these days doesn’t come cheap. The problem is that for the past decade or so, even Britain’s proud monarchy has been experiencing its own economic crisis. As this generation of young royals is forced to care about salaries rather than salutes and contracts rather than curtsies, it doesn’t look like life in the gilded cage is getting any easier…

I have friends and relatives in Canada; this is not surprising. They all want William to be the next king.

There have been lots of reasons/suppositions as to why there has been no announcement regarding W and K. Like Hale, I too very much believe that there will be no such announcement this side of the looming general election.

I also believe (proven somewhat by this article) that Will treads a fine line where his father is concerned. I am sure there would be many heads rolling around palace corridors if Will was released onto the world stage only to totally eclipse Charles.

I am happy to wait for any announcement with regards to an engagement. I am also pretty sure that Will is STILL somewhat undecided.

    Morning,

I just hope we get some news next year. This really has gone on long enough. IMO!

Love it, Zara!!! I can always count on her for something to circumvent lame regal news. What a boring month! Can PW please slap that ring on KM’s finger so I can stop reading the same old boring stories and commentary?

As for CD and PH, although I would like to think they are together I have my doubts. One photo of the two walking out of a club is not enough evidence to me. I know plenty of people who have mutually amicable relationships with their exes.

LadyB, regarding the “eclipse”… I totally agree and I believe it’s the reason William (and Harry) were held back in there early 20’s. Perhaps one or two people benefited from the “party princes” image. ;) Once this proved to be a bad idea, details of their military training were announced. JMO.

    Katharine, I get your point!

In my view, it’s not a good thing to have Charles and William/Harry behaving in what seems to me to be a disparate manner. One way of getting over this sticky issue would be to have Charles and William sharing the same stage as often as possible. It would then look as if Will was learning the ropes under his father’s tutorage. It might help cement in the public’s eye, that they are members of the same family trying to achieve the best possible way ahead for the family as a whole, not each going their own separate ways building their own separate teams.

The Queen comes first, then Charles, THEN William. If Will is constantly put out there alone, I fear we will eventually have another Charles/Diana situation with the press, playing one off against the other.

NOT a good look for the firm AS A WHOLE.

One last point, I think Will has a good relationship with his father and I do not doubt that Charles loves his sons. They should show this side of themselves to the public a lot more often.

  • Katharine #9 - November 4, 2009 at 4:57 am

LadyB, I don’t doubt that Charles loves his sons, but I’m not so sure he’s anxious to share the stage with them. I totally agree with you that he SHOULD have William at his side but in recent years I believe Charles’ primary objective has been to have Camilla accepted as his wife.

  • LadyB #10 - November 4, 2009 at 9:49 am

Katharine, I have to agree with you. However, there is more than one way to skin a cat, so they say. A great opportunity is being missed here, imo.

Charles could benefit from ‘sharing’ the limelight a little with William. It would serve to make him more relevant to the younger generation. William would also gain something from this. It would make his introduction onto the world stage much easier with his father at his side.

If they approached this together, perhaps in the fullness of time, both C and C could ‘ join’ in.

I just hope my fears do not come to pass with them both having separate camps and the devilish press making mischief.

It seems like Prince Harry will be laying a reath at the Cenotaph with members of the royal family on Remembrance Day. It will be on behalf of his father who’s in Canada.

    Sorry I did mean ‘wreath’.

  • Katharine #13 - November 4, 2009 at 11:48 am

LadyB, excellent points and I agree with you. I also fear that your concerns are on the money if “history” is anything to go by… ;)
