That may have been the case many years ago, but times changed.

Dickie Arbiter the Q's former press secretary began his career in TV & Radio during the 60's.

Ronald Allison another of the Q's former press secretaries began his career working for the BBC.

Mark Bolland, before working for the POW. Bolland used to work for the Press Complaints Commission before working for the POW.

He first formed his own company AFTER he left the office of the POW.

I agree that some press secretaries have been better than others, but for me the problem is their advisers.

eg: When Diana died one of the Q's advisers was none of than Robert Fellowes, Diana's brother in law. I don't feel he advised the Q at all well during that era.

To clarify about Public Relations and the British Royal Family, including Harry. There is a large distinction between a PR firm and a press secretary.

Though there have been several attempts to launch and relaunch Charles and they're still going on as we speak, they've all been by amateurs. I mean Buckingham Palace has never hired a professional public relations outfit let alone a Madison Avenue type and they would throw up their hands in horror at the very idea. What it means is that some of Charles' press secretaries have been better than others as some of the Queen's press secretaries have been better than others. They tend to be civil servants, often diplomats drawn from the Foreign Office, who may be very pleasant, intelligent people, but once they get inside the Palace they're riveted to the status quo and they lose track of public opinion in the real world.
And so it goes.

My last post in this string gave my thoughts on this effort that has reportedly raised a good deal of money.

Well said Lady B.

As for the media, one has to read between the lines and one shouldn't pay any mind to comment pages.

Unfortunately, some mean spirited people are determined to make something out of nothing when it comes to the fall off the horse.

If there was any truth in it the media would say it. PH is fair game unlike some.

The accusations are too silly for words. There are no saints here.

Rman, thanks for reminding everyone of the above.

Harry is quite an emotional character, you know. It's much easier to press his buttons, so to speak, than it is William's. I'm sure that given time he will be able to have a bit more self control.

Harry over here in the UK is seen as a bit of a colourful character. He will always be the one to give the press a good story, one way or another. However, he is also very well liked. A great many people will not forget just how old (or young) he was when his mother died.

We the royal bloggers know that.

Rman, the blogs would be boring if the posters do not present their opinions and views.

Good Morning,

I would just like to mention that when Harry's horse fell at the polo match, Harry got upset because a nice businessman offered $100.000 to Harry's charity, Sentebale but only if Harry would stay on the horse. So when Harry came tumbling off the horse during that game, Harry thought he had lost the bet for his charity and that got him upset. The good part is Harry still got the money for the charity because as it turns out the horse fell not Harry. So before we go all off on Harry's bad temper, lets remember that he was trying to do whats best for Sentebale.

I think it's time we all grow up and stop focusing on these unnecessary things, so Harry got upset in front of the media because he nearly lost money for his charity. He was thinking of his charity my friends. We have to understand that it's not always easy to keep your cool in front of the media. The royals are humans before they are royal.

Yes Kat, that is why I had mentioned the rating on the Headlines and Content.

If the majority of the H and C's (referring to headlines and content) - choice of the editors - reflecting PH in a bad manner (describing the photo), then you will get the "awareness" of - for example - the Daily Mail, 5 million plus readers, that Harry is short fused/temper.

We are a minority who have more interest/knowledge on the BRF - we get more information, analysis, etc. about the royals, thanks to the dedicated blogs.

Someone said that the media is the message. I am seeing it all the time. Some in the media see Harry one way focus on what he did after the fall. Two people can see that and one could think that it was a display of anger while another could say that it was a display of disappointment. One of our news colmmentators called Harry a Patriot. Depending on the perspective of the journalist it either shows Harry in a good or not so good light.
