Prince William - Royal Knight of the Garter

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Prince William, wearing an ostrich plumed hat and velvet robes, on Monday was made a Royal Knight of the Garter in a ceremony full of regal pomp.

The prince, second in line to the throne, was formally appointed to the most senior order of British chivalry at Saint George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, west of London.

William, who turns 26 on Saturday, was watched by his girlfriend Kate Middleton, 26, and brother Prince Harry, 23.

The Most Noble Order of the Garter is the oldest order of chivalry in the world, established in 1348 by the queen’s ancestor king Edward III.

William is now a Royal Knight Companion and the 1,000th Knight of the Garter.

Wearing their distinctive white ostrich plumes, blue velvet robes and black velvet hats, the knights and ladies were watched by about 7,000 members of the public as they walked from the castle to the chapel for the church service.

Prince William sets sail with the Royal Navy

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

PHOTO - Prince WilliamPrince William will begin his Royal Navy career in the Westcountry next week, in the latest stage of his preparations to become head of the armed forces.

He will train at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth at the start of a two-month posting taking in all aspects of the Senior Service.

With the rank of Sub Lieutenant, he will join sailors and Royal Marines in intensive training before taking to the sea on board a submarine and a frigate.

He will also return to the skies after his recent stint in the RAF, this time flying Fleet Air Arm helicopters.

The move is part of a long-running process to familiarise the Prince - second-in-line to the throne - with the armed forces before he assumes the title of Lord High Admiral, currently held by the Queen.

He is expected to spend several weeks on dry land, learning about the history of the Navy and maritime strategy alongside fellow young officers.
He is also likely to take part in the gruelling commando course faced by the Royal Marines.

But later this summer, after undergoing training including sea survival and fire fighting, he will board the Type 23 Frigate HMS Iron Duke, where he will see operations at first-hand.

Prince William tops Forbes Hottest Young Royals List

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

PHOTO - Prince WilliamThough Prince William was born with gilded birthrights to fame, wealth and beauty, he had to wait 25 years for another title. The Prince’s international intrigue and unparalleled media attention earned him the top spot this year on Forbes’ annual ranking of the world’s Hottest Young Royals.

To compile the ranking, Forbes counted international Web and media presence as well as family wealth. Only unmarried royals under the age of 35 were considered.

The 20 royals on Forbes’ Hottest Young Royals list represent nearly $60 billion in wealth and 15 royal lineages. While a few own or operate their own businesses, the majority are students or involved in serving their countries through, for example, diplomacy, athletic competition or military service - proving there’s more to hotness than wealth, power and good looks, though none of those things hurt. William & Kate’s Romantic Getaway

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Prince William and Kate Middleton will fly to the private Caribbean island of Mustique next week for a romantic holiday.

Palace insiders said William’s decision to ask Kate to stand in for him at Peter Phillips’s wedding yesterday underlined the strength of their relationship – and that their break would give them a chance to discuss their future.

An acquaintance of the couple said that William will join Kate, 26, on Mustique on Wednesday.

They will stay at the £1,785-a-night Villa Alumbrera, one of the island’s most opulent and secluded mansions. The villa is booked until May 28.

A source said: “William is due to start the last stage of his Royal Navy training in June, so it could just be that he wants to have some quality time with Kate in a place where they can be sure of total privacy. But it does seem that they may be getting down to serious discussion of their future.”
