Royal Marriage proposal hinges on Gold Medal Win

This is Gloucestershire reports that rugby star Mike Tindall could propose to Zara Phillips after the 2012 Olympics – as long as she wins a gold medal!

The Queen’s granddaughter and world champion eventer has set her sights on Olympic gold in London in three years time. And if she does won the coveted medal then Mike has said he’ll pop the question.

The news was revealed by former England rugby player Will Greenwood. Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Will says it was Mike who was talking passionately about horses rather than Zara.

“I am surprised when he talks of ‘flying changes’, ‘rein backs’, the four-star horses, and the promise that an Olympic gold medal might, if she’s lucky, be exchanged for a wedding ring”, he says.

The pair have been dating since 2003 and had hoped to wed this year but were pipped to the post by Lord Freddie Windsor, who is marrying actress Sophie Winkleman next month.

‘The Palace has to give them the nod,’ says my source. ‘Zara is Royal and there are certain protocols.

There’s still the question of whether William and Kate will make an announcement. There can’t be two at once.’

“I don’t think it is about whether we will get married, but when,” says the England rugby player, who met the granddaughter of the Queen in 2003. “There is no doubt that I love Zara, but it has to be the right time.

“She is so busy competing and I am touring. We often don’t even manage to get away on holiday together. And, yes, it probably would be a white wedding, although sometimes I can see the attraction of sneaking away without telling anyone.”

A friend of the couple’s tells this week’s Hello! magazine;

“He is very good with the children and enjoys all the rough and tumble… Zara is brilliant with the children. She would come over for a coffee sometimes and play with the children. They adore her…”

The Queen’s granddaughter and the rugby ace have spent £250,000 renovating the five-bed pad since buying it in April. The investment is the clearest hint yet they will wed.

Ladbrokes has closed the book on equestrian star Zara, 26, being the next Royal to wed after a flurry of bets.

Friends say the couple opted for the leafy spa town to be closer to the nightlife and Zara’s favourite shopping streets, having outgrown their two-bedroom cottage on Princess Anne’s Gatcombe estate.

An insider said: “They wanted more ind­ependence. They have enjoyed living at Gatcombe for the past four years but it can get quite suffocating with Zara’s mum, dad and stepmother all living on the estate. Zara has always loved Cheltenham and they think the property will be a good ­investment.”

24/7 Protection to be reviewed for ‘junior’ Royals

Seems Princess Eugenie’s gap-year hi-jinx have prompted a review of around-the-clock protection for junior members of the royal family. The Sun reports

Experts believe the bill for ensuring the security of the entire family may have topped the £50million mark. The review will look at where the money is spent and whether some younger family members actually need the current level of protection.

A senior Royal source said: “Few people would begrudge working members of the Royal family adequate security arrangements. However, their is growing unease at the sheer costs involved in offering round-the-clock protection to non-working members of the family.

“The only thing the public see is bodyguards being used as glorified taxi drivers to ferry young members of the family to and from nightclubs.

Zara Phillips’ Paparazzi Outburst

She raged at the press pack following her: ‘This is a competition, not a ****ing social event!’

Her outburst came the day after a member of the paparazzi allegedly caused her horse, Ardfield Magic Star, to rear as she entered the dressage arena.

After getting the message off her chest she did, however, offer a half-hearted apology.
‘I’m not blaming you, it’s just people like that [the paparazzi] who give you lot a bad name,’ she said, then offered a wave.

Her mood was further lightened later when she came ninth in the dressage event on her other horse, Toytown.
